Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified
When you have some or many of the autistic traits but not enough to classify as autistic or the other "disorders". There is a mistaken belief that this diagnosis means the person is less afflicted. But that's not true, there are other factors like age of onset, lack of any other measurable skills that can disqualify people from being strictly autistic. I knew a boy who had significant brain damage and after 6 or 7 years, was considered PDD-NOS because his personality and learning styles grew closer to autistic than anything else.
according to my mother I'm not quite aspergers because I didn't meet enough for the criteria. Only five but meet up to 8 of them sometimes when I'm stressed. But I saw in a paper written about me that I was diagnosed with it even though I didn't quite meet the criteria. WTF??? My mother told me I met five of them and up to eight of them when I'm stressed so how can I not meet it? This was at one of my doctor's appoinment's when I saw the paper but didn't read the whole thing because the doctor had closed his book. So that's why I think my diagnoses should have been PDD-NOS but I am on the autism spectrum.
