I am finding myself more and more daily making noises or sounds effects with my mouth.

Anyone else?

How do you not do this in public?

Find a different stim that you find socially acceptable enough, and every time you catch yourself doing that, swap to doing the other thing. Eventually the new stim takes over usually.

I make a lot of noises when I'm alone. I usually don't make them around other people, mostly because I tend to not make noise around people in general. Whatever it is that gets me talking to myself or making random noises shuts off in the presence of someone else. I don't really know how to describe how or why it happens, but the transition from being alone to having someone nearby, especially unexpectedly, is really unpleasant.

when i was a kid i loved making faux flatulance with the palm of one or both hands against the corners of my mouth. nobody else liked it, though. it relaxed me greatly when i was stressed. i also like to suck inwards then suddenly bring up the tip of my tongue against the upper dental [incisor] ridge, making a "ffffFFFFFUUPP!!" noise. also i like to make a trilling sound while inhaling or exhaling, in a manner similar to rolling an R. it sounds a bit like a cat purring. when i am a captive audience someplace [like in front of a radio or tv when my hands are occupied] where some dittohead is saying evil things i can't abide, if i am prevented from plugging my ears i will make a loud "SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS" sound to drown him or her out. i really like the sound fx of whistling and humming at the same time. that one always makes a cranky baby stop being cranky for a bit, a wonderful temporary distraction- the expression on the cranky infant's face [when i make that noise] is priceless.

When my son (AS) was in elementary school he learned how to do armpit farts. He was so pleased with himself he decided he wanted to demonstrate this skill at the school's annual talent show. :)
On another note, I had someone mention to me how often I was clucking.

i like to make various types of cluckings in musical accompaniment to songs i hear on the radio. it would be neat if i could cluck and whistle at the same time. Image

HaHa I talked my son out of it by reminding him the skits were usually several minutes long and to think about how long several minutes actually are.

I like to make sounds effects. Such as when turning on the computer, it's shew. Cause that's what it sounds like to me. If I am taking out a pen it's woop. I also like to make clucking noises when walking down the stairs. And popping sounds too. I also talk to myself.

I literally cannot focus when driving if I am not at least doing all three, making noises, talking to myself, or sound effects.

I've always clucked and it caused me a touch of trouble once. In college I had a steady gig babysitting for a working mom. I took care of her toddler son who was learning how to talk. I didn't even realize it but he started to cluck too because he was imitating me and spent so much time around me. His mom brought this up to me and asked me to stop clucking because it bothered her that he'd picked it up. I worked to control my clucking around him, apparently by pursing my lips (I didn't realize this). He started copying that too. His mom noted this new habit resignedly. Then she slowly, slowly cut back my hours until I was only taking care of him once a week and then not at all. Was I fired for clucking? It's hard to tell. But somewhere out there is a grown man who clucks and has no idea why (if he still does it).

And what's wrong with a little clucking? It could be worse. My brother makes this horrific snrxing noise when he sucks the phlegm from the back of his sinuses. 8O

Clucking, purring, it's all good in my books. Not so much in other people's books.
