Hello everyone :D hope you're all having a great day

so, i am just 17 and i'm moving to New York all alone in a few weeks.
I am going there to start a company and kick of my career, now i am living in Belgium which ofcourse is a very small relaxed place and isn't like New York City in anyway possible.

I haven't flew before and i still live with my mom so it's going to be a radical change.

Now i don't know how my Asperger is going to handle this all but i can imagine it being though for any NT so i'm kinda concerned :P
I will be renting an appartment so i'll have to take care of myself for the first time in my life.
I'll also be employing a secretary if that might give you a better idea of it all.

any advice on this about safety, the way New York rolls and whatever you can come up with.
I am very exited so i'm worried that i won't be able to take rational decisions.

Thanks :D

So lucky. I've always wanted to live in NY. You must be a super scientist or a wizard if you can move there. Since it's apparently 100% impossible for me.

Nothing is impossible, everything's up to you.

New York moves fast. Nobody there slows down. Be careful where you go at night especially since you don't know where the good and bad parts of it are. The problem with New York City, and most cities for that matter, is that the good ones are surrounded by the bad and viceversa. It's such a big place. Also, the cops there are a**holes.

You really are jumping into the deep end of the pool. Why did you decide on NYC?

I've lived and worked in NYC for over two decades. For me, moving here was a rash decision. I had finished school and some friends had already arrived. I've worked hard here, felt like I was having a walking nervous breakdown at times, and have grown more than I ever imagined I could. There are challenges and rewards.

You'll like this city if you appreciate diversity of all kinds. There are jerks here, but also many nice people. As for safety, I'd advise you to be on high alert when you arrive, though you might find that you'll develop a sixth sense about safety after awhile. For this reason, it helps if already know people who can help you navigate. Do you?

The summers can feel like tropical heat. Fall and spring are nice. Hopefully you will find a neighborhood that suits you.

I don't know anyone there, but i don't do here either :P i decided for New York just because i have the whole world at my hand there, i won't have to go from place to place to start my company and find the right people, and because it's the financial capital of the US.
I see this as an adventure and my first step into my dreams so i am willing to accept the jungle of NYC.

Some notes about New York City and New Yorkers:

- New Yorkers aren't necessarily intrinsically impolite. It's just that when we're walking from one place to another, we're in a rush; we don't have time to be courteous.
- I'm not sure where in Belgium you're from, but you're probably correct that New York City's neighborhoods have the potential to be rougher than what you've seen. Unless you know otherwise, trust your sense: if an area seems sketchy or dangerous, it may well be. Be somewhere else when this happens.
- Plan your route. Make a point to know where you're going before you go out the door.
- When someone drifts around Times Square, Grand Central Station, Herald Square, Gramercy Park, Sunset Park, or wherever, wearing a grubby pair of sneakers and an unwashed look, that someone is judged a bum. Otherwise, that someone is judged as a potential mark.
- NYPD officers (and cops in general) frequently don't see the best side of people while on the job. They frequently see the worst side. Some cops may not be nice people to begin with, but they're still human, and when humans twist far enough we become bent.
- If you don't know anyone there, you're on your own. Live this, and embrace this, or else the place (not necessarily the people) will eat you alive and turn you into someone you wouldn't want to be.

Oh, and:

- Most vehicles will do their best to stop if you walk in their path. Yellow cabs won't; they'd prefer to swerve, but if you end up as a hood ornament nonetheless, oh well.

Thanks for your advice, i see the whole world as what you just explained so i think i'll be able to handle it. oh yea about transportation, do you think biking around is a good idea? or just walking? i might use a taxi but i see that as a waste of money.

Utilizing taxis to go everywhere is wasteful. There exists (in my view) a perfectly good transit system (see the Metro Transit Authority website). Your feet (assuming you have at least two) can also get you places, eventually.

You're gonna try to start a business in NY based on a high school education and with no previous experience at a time when most businesses are failing and the economy is terrible?
