It occured to me what if cartoons cause autism?

It seems like most of my thoughts are spoken in someone else's words even though I know they are my thoughts and a lot of these are from cartoons.

So what if this was caused by watching too many cartoons? Looking back in my memories it seems like some of my behavior may have even come from Aspergish cartoon characters.

According to my mother I was showing some symptoms before I was 2 years old. As far as I'm aware I didn't watch cartoons until I was 4 or 5 because we couldn't afford a tv before then. So I highly doubt there's any link between cartoons and developing autism.

I watched a lot of video hits, especially House of Pain. White boy rap made me autistic? 8O

Nope, but cartoons are rather Aspie-friendly, in my personal opinion.

Cartoons made me more neurotypical than I would have been had I not watched them. I learned facial expressions and tones of voice from cartoons...unfortunately. Now, I use the facial expressions and tones of voice of cartoon characters when socializing with others and also when socializing with myself. "Ehhhhhhh, what's up, Doc?" "I thought I saw a Tweety Bird! I did! I did!"

I can't believe this is even a topic...

Cartoons do not cause autism/Asperger's... if that was the case just about everyone would have it.

Maybe it was because you realized the words they were saying made more sense to express your thoughts than the ones you had for them?

Cartoons don't cause autism. Autism causes autism.

There was an article making the rounds a few weeks ago (heck, it made national news) claiming that Spongebob causes learning difficulties and ADHD - despite the fact that the results of the study were not statistically significant. So, as ricidulous as it sounds, I bet the same "psychologists" could publish another "study" linking ASD to cartoons and the general public would lap it up, like they did with the Spongebob study.

People will believe what they are told to believe. I think the term is "argument from authority".

If cartoons caused Autism my siblings would all be autistic. And they're not.
