They got the idea from America and England which was started by Francis Galton who used shoddy science to prove that you could breed out the weak by breeding only those without any disabilities or deformities.
It isn't shoddy science. While many disabilities aren't genetic, many are, and can be cured through eugenics. It is totally possible.
If it wasn't for moral concerns of some people, we could have already genetically engineered a human-bear-tiger-dolphin-walrus-cactus species. Wouldn't that be awesome?
It is not totally possible. Two healthy parents could have a child with learning problems and that child could grow up to have healthy children.
It's shoddy and immoral and terrible science that should never come back. It's the dark side of science. Science should be about celebrating the diverse range of humans. We celebrate a diverse range of other species.
Would you rather we just gas everyone you deemed unfit to breed to continue this long line of mental and physical fitness in your mind?
What about Mary Ann Kennedy? A woman who had a lower IQ than her brilliant brothers, labelled mentally ret*d even though to many friends of the family she appeared to just have a learning disorder. Some even saying she could have AS. Her IQ would have been average by todays standards. So, someone gets a lobotomy which actually makes her mentally ret*d and she lives out the rest of her days in an institution. At least she didn't catch the Kennedy curse.
Imagine what they would have done to people with autism back then?
What about autistic savants or even people with autism with a special skill? Sometimes you need mad people to come up with mad ideas to change the world.
