Does people have problems to understand what you say? I mean , sometimes I have to explain many times what I am talking about or because they don´t understandme. And when I try to say something I sound arrogant but I can´t afford this .when I make a joke, people think that I am not joking. When I am relax , people think that I am nervous. The problem is that , they are my parents or my classroom mates,I don´t know what to do about this.Does it happened to you? What do you do about this? Can you give an advice?.Thanks

I have the same problems. When I speak without effort, my voice automatically comes out in a monotone. I also don't pronounce stuff clearly. Recently, I have been trying to put in more effort when I talk to make sure I speak very, very, clearly. I am still not sure how it's working out yet since I've just started, but fewer people have asked me to repeat what I say. Maybe it doesn't sound natural...

About the nervous thing, it's probably the default poker face that is on us all the time. I don't really know what to do about except to talk more so people know my mental state... I could use some advice on that too.

I have the same problem as fiooo with the added problem of having some of my speech come out kinda....."warped" I guess you could say due to my partial deafness.

I sometimes have speech problems mainly while psychotic but other times I speak so well that I am highly rated at autism conferences. With this I am inconsistent and always have been. Either one extreme or the other. In the past I went to Toastmasters and it helped me become a better speaker.

My voice is a mix of monotone and geek, and some people tell mr to speak up or repeat what I said. So I guess I have trouble talking.

I wonder if anyone has another problem that I have, where my voice is really inconsistent. Like it always sounds the same through my ears (kinda girly) but some people tell me I "talk like a slow person" whatever that means, and other times I get told I have a deep voice and other times I get told that I sound like a girl. Sure enough I've recorded myself twice speaking and while I talk a little slowly, in one of the recordings I sound kinda like Michael Cera but in the other one my voice is significantly deeper (they were both recorded when I was 17 with the deeper one coming first). I had a friend with this problem too and never figured out what the reason was.

I often speak to quitely and no one understands what I'm saying. People also often have the tendacy to think I'm serious when I'm not, especially when I attempt to be sarcastic in a weird autistic way. However, people seem to love it when I give oral presentations of any kind, probably because I can put in an excessive amount of energy, I've figured out how to do all the pausing and emphasis and crap, my ideas are pretty original, and I'm somewhat funny, in a half-serious way.

If I'm talking, you better shut the heck up and listen to me, because I'm saying something important.

I'm not sure if I have problems like this. Sometimes I have people act like they thought I said something dirty or otherwise inappropriate when I didn't but I can't tell if they mean it or are just pretending because it's "funny". Example: Once I had a crazy neighbor that was really annoying and I told someone how they "raked" the dirt floor in the cellar and they acted like they thought I said he "raped" it.

I seem to recall an awful lot of people telling me they are partly deaf of deaf in one ear when I was younger so now I think it may have been a way to try to get me to talk louder without making me feel self conscious. If not I was surrounded by people with serious hearing disorders.

I once had some random girl in a bar ask me "why I talk like that". What she meant I have no idea. I've also been told in the past that I sound like a cartoon character and should do voices in them and once someone told me I sound like a "Japanese schoolgirl".

Well, people don't always understand me, because I have speech problems on top of (supposed) AS. I tend to speak fast, stutter, stammer, trip over words, have a bit monotone voice, accentuate and pronounce badly. (And yes, my voice is somewhat girly, too.) Besides, when the audience seems to understand the words, there's still the problem understanding what I try to impart to them... My mind thinks primarily in concepts, while the capacity to translate to words somewhat acts like a bottleneck, so rough/faulty translation is inevitable most of the time. Furthermore, paying attention to ToM issues isn't my strong point either. One should know when to speak, what to speak, when to insert new thoughts, ideas, when to answer/comment on that of other's, be silent and listen, ask appropriate questions, and so on...

Apparently my speech is very confusing to understand. Mainly due to the fact i apparently 'mumble'. I also sound like an idiot when i talk, Losing words, saying words wrong, mixing words up, etc.

Also, I sometimes try and be sarcastic, but apparently i say it in my normal voice so people can't pick it up, so they think i'm being sincere and think i'm lying or just weird. Didn't realize you had to use different tones with sarcasm :D

I must have a speech impediment as people don't understand me and then I get annoyed when they twist what I say.

To a first-order approximation.

No. Either my words come out jumbled, I speak too softly, or both. It's a wonder I get understood at all.

Not that easily lol. I can be quite monotone and its sort of compounded by having a deep voice and speaking in a whisper a lot of the time.
