Obsessions vs routines
Do you ever have the situation where you have a routine in place, or are trying to establish one, but you get absorbed in something - something related to an obsession or perhaps even completion of another routine - and you end up failing to follow the routine you originally intended to follow? eg: I will leave work in the middle of a meeting to make the train I intend to catch, but if someone starts a discussion about say, Linux, I will get absorbed in that and end up missing the intended train. I must follow my morning shave routine, even if I don't really need to shave, and it will sometimes cause, or greatly contribute to failing my morning train routine.
Even though neither of these things necessarily is of great consequence (I don't have rigid hours at work), I get upset at myself for failing to follow the routine, to the point where it takes great restraint not to hit or kick some inanimate object in public.
Is this something you fellow aliens can relate to?
I'm not an alien.
I can relate, but in a different way. My anxieties take over my obsessions and routine. I'm obsessed with buses and the drivers, and I've been doing voluntary work for 3 years (which did become a routine), but since I've discovered I've got Social Phobia, I've become afraid to go out and face people, so I'm not getting the buses as much, and I've left my voluntary job.
That goes to show that my anxiety disorder is bigger than the AS.
