Hi there,

Basically, I was going to a party yesterday evening, and thought I'd give my clothes a quick iron before going out. I had like half an hour to go, so I was in a rush, and basically once I'd finished with the iron I didn't think to turn it off, and went outside.

I realise that this is massively dangerous, and that I could potentially have set my whole flat on fire. I believe I put it on th hot-plate, but even so, it could have been fatal. My flatmates are definitely less than pleased, and the guilt I feel over this is kind of crushing! Does stuff like this happen for anyone else? And what should I do to set it right?

That sucks. I don't think it's about making it right as long as no damage was done. I am obsessive about checking stovetop, candles, etc because I'm prone to similar incidents. I set my friend's oven on fire almost two decades ago, and I still hear about it. Just apologize and move on.

Everybody makes mistakes.

The point is to learn from your mistakes, not repeat them.

In this case, no matter how much of a rush you are in, double check before you leave as MMM said.

You will be forgiven at some point.
