First, she is in an online school and HAS to interact on the computer with her peers. She is not comfortable with doing this. I thought this would be a safe place for her to practice being social on the net. When she is around her friends IRL, she does talk, and talk and talk, so that is not the problem. She is just not used to the net and doesn't know how she feels about it. Yes, I am making her do this. She is not mad at me, but she is slightly irritated. Unfortunately for her, she needs to do this for her classes, and as I said, this is a safe place for her to practice having a conversation. :)

Say Hello to NaturalFireWave (again).

She needs to post something herself. It's nice of you to try and help your daughter, but she needs to join some discussions.

I know she does, but she will not post unless I start something... and she just did. :)

Let me add my reasoning for starting this as opposed to her just adding to another discussion. She does not know how to respond to other discussions. THAT is her problem. I am setting this up as a practice thread for her. Think of it as a way for her to practice her social skills. :) She needs to start somewhere, and today she would not communicate when she was supposed to in her classes and this is not the first time. I usually do the talking for her. I am trying to help her learn for herself.

Hi NaturalFireWave! One of my favorite composers is Satie. Someone who it turns out had a lot of AS traits. I love his simplicity and his music makes me feel peaceful. What are you listening to right now?

Right now I am listening to Haydn. Alison Balsom is the trumpet soloist.

My son, who has AS, plays trombone in middle school. He seems to have a facility for music but not the passion. Well take care, I have to go. I hope you have some interesting discussions here on WP.

I used to not very interested in the trumpet until I heard her(Alison Balsom). There is this group called the Mnozil Brass that has an amazing trombone player in it. The guy has the ego of a trumpet player. If you think it is appropriate to show your son this I think it would probably give him some inspiration. Hi, NaturalFireWave!

I'm an old woman, if you haven't learned to look at ages at the left-hand side yet (or even if you have). My daughter played cornet in High School (she's about your mother's age), but gave it up afterward. I played clarinet in band, and likewise quit. I still mess around with guitar, dulcimer, and keyboard some. Music in general has been a Good Thing all my life, and I'm glad my parents started me with lessons when I was little, even though I didn't use it professionally.

My daughter's definitely NT, and I was just diagnosed with Asperger's a few years ago. Nobody had ever heard of it, including the psychologists, when I was a kid, back in the Stone Age.

There are quite a few teenagers around here, but I suspect they're mostly in school right now. Evening might be a better time for you to hang out.

Edit: And I forgot about the difference in time zones: I'm in Kansas, US, and we have teenagers in the British Isles and Australia, too.

Hello, NaturalFireWave. ^_^
I didn't come into contact with the Internet until I was 15, due to my family not having a computer that was hooked up to it. And that was just 11 years ago. Weird, huh...

Very true. She is not unfamiliar with computers or video games. Just the social part of it. As for me, I have been on the internet for years. I first got on sometime around 1992ish. It looked nothing like it looks now. Much more text based. I became social in 1997 in yahoo chats and have not stopped since. I am a chatterbox.

See, you did just fine! Do you like classical music? You should create a classical music topic in the music sub-forum and talk to others who share your interest. Or maybe you can take part in a discussion about music that's already started. If you don't know what to say, keep browsing topics until you find something to comment about, or like I said, start a topic about what's on your mind. Others will respond.

Oh man, I LOVE balkan brass bands!

And, though Mnozil is Austrian, it very much has the balkan flavor to it, except the Balkan Brass usually has a righteous drum section.

Try these, if you will:

Goran Bregovic:

and Boban Marcovic:
