A world without asperger's well autism disorders in general, is like a world without insects- don't always understand them, sometimes hard to put up with (ants especially yeaaacchhh :0) , annoying and yet the world couldn't live without them.
( Best analogy of Asperger's I ever read personally)

I'm again not trying to say aspies are better than NT, because we are equal, but I read somewhere that Aspies have been around since the beginning of time and that the world would actually cease to function as is were if Aspies did not exist or in ASD were never presented in society.

Is neurodiversity a necessity?

It is. In fact, modern society would not exist if it weren't for people with Asperger's Syndrome.

This is because about two hundred fifty years ago, technology and learning exploded. Also around that time, the first people who experts say had Asperger's Syndrome or High Functioning Autism started to appear. These are the people like Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Motzart, etc. This is why the world needs autistic people!

Yes it does! :) That is one of the things I LOVE about having AS is the impact my mind has (different from other people) on the world.

A necessity? No. But the world wouldn't be as far advanced as it is today.

Probably we would still be living in caves or what life was like when we were still using horses and buggies to get around.

If we are a necessity, then what was that other thread all about in the Autism Politics forum about the government plotting to get rid of all Autistic people? That has made me feel like I'm useless to society.

By that do you mean we should share equal freedoms and inalienable rights, or do you mean that we share equal natural endowments?

I disagree with the notion that nts are too stupid to invent things.

A world without Aspergers? Didn't we try that already? I think it was the Mesozoic era...

I wasn't meaning to come across as saying that! There are a lot of smart NT's too no doubt. The advantage that aspies have over NT's is the ability to intensely focus on single subjects, which helps if you wanna invent something

Each time I hear things about NTs being stupid, it actually disturbs me. I'm NT and I'm not stupid. I got an A in maths and an A+ in history, and I'm at college right now studying physics.

Sometimes WP makes NTs look like dull soulless people who can't go without socializing for 2 seconds. We are not actually like that. We also have ambitions and a lot of us want to get ourselves into a career too. My boyfriend builds computers because he really likes computers.

Yes, neurodiversity is a necessity. I also think neurodiversity would still exist even if somehow nobody fit the current DSM criteria for autism. There would be other differences between different peoples' neurologies. There are differences between the neurologies labled here as "NT". Things get a diagnostic label once particular differences make a person fit poorly into their culture. The labels change over time and across cultures. The label "possessed by demons" has been largely but not entirely discarded, for example. So if nobody happened to fit today's autism criteria, there would be other differences, some of them differences currently in the DSM (like "schizophrenia") and some of them considered mere quirks. There would perhaps be differences we can't currently envision.

Do I think inventions would be impossible? Of course not.

The value of neurodiversity is many, many different ways of thinking and approaching problems. It is not binary. The world does not divide into two neurologically homogenous groups, AS and NT. For that matter, all the people who fit no DSM criteria for anything are not neurologically homogenous. Non-homogeneity is what allowed humans to take over the earth. We would go out in different directions if evolution had pushed us in a slightly different way.

For the first one I wish we shared the same kind of freedom (legally, yes but you can't legally force people to like or accept you socially) people can be as rude and ignorant as they like.

In terms of natural endowments I think were are equal in different ways, Aspies lagging behind in social capabilities, but typically score high on IQ and other standardized tests... there are more examples just putting that out there.

So in the end it all evens out I'd say.

Well I am sorry you feel that way, because I don't personally think NT's are stupid and don't remember saying they were either. Good for you and you're goals.
As for being dull and souless I also don't think that about NT's, however I do feel like they have a stronger demand to be around people, and probably couldn't tolerate being alone as well as an AS could just by the nature of our wiring.

In terms of the careers I understand about that, but given that you are innately born with better social skills finding a career should tend to be slightly easier for someone who understands the office politics.

And just out of curiosity why did you decide to join the community you being an NT? I think that's great don't get me wrong just curious
