The episode that came on after it featured someone with Aspergers as well. It is weird how different each person with Aspergers is compared to others with the same disorder. Its intresting to see how others with it are able to function.

I watched it. It was OK until about 15 minutes in. They were hooking him up to the RTMS machine and the narrator said they were hoping to make him "a better man". I found a great deal of implicit judgment in that statement. John's story itself is compelling, so at least that was interesting.

"A better man"? Maybe it's a good thing I didn't see it, since that would have just made me angry ...

I'm not sure if it's airing in Australia yet. Will keep an eye out for it.
And I agree if John was a 'better man' then he wouldn't have those talents. Same goes for anyone with an ASD with special talents.

Why be so sensitive?

If he is seeking some kind of treatment through an RTMS machine isn't the point of doing that to achieve some kind of improvement and thus become "better"?

Or was the intention of RTMS machine session to simply waste time for no discernible benefit?

The "better man" comment came across is a way that made it sound like he was deficient in character. It was an emotional hook, as well. There was very little about the science of the RTMS machine. Too much of pulling at the heart strings.

So the full video is only available on Discovery Channel on cable whenever they happen to air it.
I really wanted to see it but I guess I cannot.

First of all, I was never seeking to become "a better man." I agree that statement makes me sound rather inferior in my less than better form. That said, I have gained valuable insights from the TMS program and I'm sure it's changed me in subtle but good ways that help me get along better while still being the same geek I always was,

Several people uploaded links to the show. Here it is, in two parts

What irritated me was the fact that I got no sense of what those insights were. It was a "science program" that felt like a Hallmark after school special with big words and gadgets. I knew that the picture of you they were creating was from the vision of a producer not really trying to understand, but trying to sell product. I would have loved to hear more from you and YOUR thoughts instead of what the producers thought about you and your thoughts.

I am would also be interested to know if the effects of the TMS were transitory or lasting.
