Everyone is so focused on Autism Speaks and Cure Autism now and pretty soon there will be prenatal tests available to screen for autism/asperger's (predicted by the year 2016) which will likely result in routine abortions as it were, being that 91% of down syndrome pregnancies are terminated :(

While I understand the frustrations of Asperger's (being an aspie, I understand them all to well), has anyone ever stopped to think about the NT traits that should be cured?
Such as:

1. An unexplainable need to constantly be around others, know what everyone else is doing, who they are dating, what things they like, what clothes they wear, who's pregnant, who's anorexic, who's having sex with who, who is failing school.......everything concerning anyone else.

2. Continuing the first point an excessive need to gossip and talk about the above mentioned stuff?

3. A lack of ability to keep and focus on certain interests.

4. A moral compass which allows lying, manipulation, betrayal and bullying, merely accepting it as a "part of life"

5. A mind that sees the "big picture" but fails to notice smaller finite and intricate details

Why are so many people focused on the "autism epidemic" when there is clearly a neurotypical pandemic that keeps growing and growing ?? 8O

I think it would be horrible for babies to be aborted just for having these disorders. They can give unusual things to the world. I have a son who is a classic case of Asperger's and he's a very moral person, responsible, highly intelligent, and he worked for Microsoft for about 5 years and is moving to a similar job. I trust him more than anyone else in the world, including my normal son. I'm not just bragging about my son; since he so totally fits the profile, I assume there are a lot of other people like him. I think we need more of them, not fewer!

I agree 100%!

But sadly as they predict, people are too wrapped up in the whole "autism- bad, neurotypical-good" load of cloud crap, that I have a horrible feeling in my gut that this could likely be the case. Future autistics and aspies ,might no longer make it out of the womb alive if this becomes possible which it almost certainly will.

I agree though we really need more aspies in the world. I can't help thinking how different things would have been Hilter, Hussain or Osama Bin Laden have even a touch of Asperger's.

Of those five I'd say #4 is the most egregious one. I do not think we need ANY manipulation or bullying in the world, and we could use far less lying and betrayal as well.

Aspies do a lot of those things too... 8)

Do the parents have a choice? They can not make you have an abortion?

What about all the engineers and computer wizz PPD NOS aspies? Will they be allowed through the screening process?

Ideally, if the authorities want to do anything meaningful, they should encourage NT's to breed with AS, so we all come out similarly well balanced....
