Does anyone have a way to switch off their brain? I find I can get obsessed with 1 thing and can't relax, or sleep or think of anything else e.g. finding a job. It is like there is a switch that is turned to "on" and nothing will distract me. I can't take in what my husband is saying or concentrate on TV or sleep properly. I am on edge. All I can do is wait the few days until it is over.
I'm currently having a stress over something I can't resolve quickly. I messaged some friends for advice, wrote stuff down, made a decision I would only look at it 9am tomorrow and one of them phoned me and now I feel better about the stress but it has got me obsessing again. How do I turn the switch to "off?"

I try to distract myself for short periods of time. Short because my mind will find it's way back to worrying eventually. But I find reading works or watching a movie.
Haven't found the "off" switch yet though.

I've studied obsessions before. I know that you might not be to that severity, but the only thing that was found to work were medications and relaxation techniques (yoga, breathing techniques, etc.). Therapy is also shown to work. Reoccurring obsessive thoughts don't generally go away on their own without some means of getting rid of them. That usually happens when stress subsides. I know it sounds grim, but I'm in the same boat as you.

I try and focus on other things hoping I will temporarily forget about it literally. I have gotten a lot better at it.
