I have a slim, athletic build and I eat healthy and exercise.
But I've been in psych ward for the past three weeks.
While being in psych ward I have moments where I eat nothing all day and occasional days where I eat loads. Ok aside the fact that I used to think my food was poisoned and hence not eating, do you think staying in a psych ward can affect the way that I eat? Because my eating patterns have gone insane.

Sometimes the medications they give you can increase/ decrease your appetite. My sister has been hospitalized six times and every times she goes she comes out at least 10lbs heavier in the course of only a few weeks. the last time she was in the hospital she came out 20lbs heavier, and at 5'1" tall that's quite an amount to gain in a short period (although she looks better a bit curvy).

SteelMaiden,
am think it could affect a lot to do with eating,if are struggling to cope with the change from home to hospital-that could be causing it,as could the noises, the smells, the new routine, everything is new.
once are back home, and settled again, should find that it will get a bit better if that was the causes.
when am recently stayed in hospital,am would not eat at all,but that had been planned for as am dont eat a lot as it is and always have a stash of complan.

am recommend getting a box of complan [or asking someone else to bring some in]-they sell it in places like boots and chemists,in different flavours and it makes up complete meals-one sachet is a light meal and adding another is a full meal.

Complan sounds like a good idea, thanks, I'll try it.

I've lost three kilograms in three weeks. I had a BMI of 19 to begin with so that's not good. Everyone tells me I'm too skinny now.

I can't eat properly now beacuse of the lack of routine in here.

Maybe tell the nurse or doctor that you need to have a routine, perhaps write one up.

You have been ill, people don't eat the same when they are sick.

Complan is a good way to easy nourishment.
