ive come to believe that i am indeed too an autistic savant. my one and only reason for this is my ability to find humor and make jokes about almost anything... sometimes i am inappropriate and i know it but it helps having friends that appreciate the way i am. im not talking about just juvenile humor either i enjoy and produce humor at many levels...i like margaret cho, kathy griffin, some people whose names i can't think of... amy sedaris,mo collins, stephanie wier, beavis and butthead and many more. what sort of humor do you guys enjoy?

I too am capable of producing humor of various calibers, but this adapted skill has yet to be completely refined; although I frequently and successfully elicit the laughter of those around me, the skill continues to get me into trouble. Sometimes my facetious style sarcasm is so perfectly executed that people take me seriously when I am only joking. I have recently lost a friend over my lackadaisical and informal style of humor, when we were at a robotics competition and I (essentially a sort of head engineer to the project) failed to participate in last minute repairs and made snide remarks to the futile efforts of the other team members to repair the robot (we were well over defeated by then anyway). I try to live my life by the principle of the logically minded perceiving life as a comedy, and the emotionally minded viewing life as a drama.

I like any kind of humour, really. x) Whether it's a very clever joke or just plain stupid. I'll take it.

When he was still writing for newspapers, Dave Barry was a blast. Mark Twain has an appeal in some sly ways...though, he occasionally got too 'sharp' about a few things. I think an understated, dry wit backed with a keen intellect is great fun. Plus, one of the funnest ways of sharing humor revolves, in a very certain way, around making fun of one's self (as well as making fun of others). I don't mean in a mocking ridicule sort of way; but more like acting the clown while implementing great skill in doing so - like Jackie Chan transforming martial arts movies into experiences that make viewers laugh while, at the same time, being awestruck with the sheer physical skills behind all the lighthearted comedy. People who can be funny but also show undeniable skill like that are a treasure. Some others who show the kind of humor I can best relate to are Paula Poundstone (yeah, I know...a little dated, right? But, come on, "you make my pants pound" is still d*mn funny), Cantinflas (it's so hopeless in trying to keep up with his Spanish, I can't help but laugh), Victor Borge (his best was reading a passage out loud from a romance novel and coding the punctuation marks into sounds along with the verbalized words) and Charlie Chaplin (who did a fantastic skit on trying to help a lady being abused by her man, just to have that 'lady' turn on Chaplin...hitting him for daring to interfere with 'her man'!). ...It's kinda funny. I'm seeing how there seems to be a pattern of me going to mostly male sources for humor and going to mostly women sources for 'deeper' material. Hmmm... Gotta go think now.

I prefer black humour, but even liked the first 'meet the parents' movie

I watched mash as a kid and stuff, 'happy days'. Not many other shows anyways with 1 or 2 TV channel NZ!

but now with the world the way it is, is like we are less tuned to humour, with so many pressing dire issues

But thats probably just me. Now we have 8 channels, but they are still as bad as each other

It's the other way around. When things get dire, people need - and make - comedy more than ever. The problem is with the current system in movies and television, it's really hard to get something funny made without executives questioning every single funny detail away. So a lot of the funny people are turned off from movies and television and instead turn to the Internet to create their own low-budget content. Comedy on the internet is huge. Not financially, but in terms of quantity, and you can find a lot of funny stuff if you just look around.
There has also been a rise/return of comedy in video games. I recently played Portal 2, and it was like moving around inside a great dark sci-fi thriller comedy novel.
