Ambiguous questions

I was just asked this by email and was thrown by the second part -"
what age were you when your wife died? how long were you alone" Like what do they mean how long was I alone? Alone without seeing anyone or alone living by myself? It comes over as an ambiguous question and such things throw me.

I think it means alone living by yourself as in how long have you been self sufficient ? If you needed home help then I think that counts as not alone. That's my best guess. Email them back and ask what they mean.

I remember a time when I was with some people doing something that we all liked while we discussed a similar topic.
