Thomas Edison seems to fit ADHD better than autism. I know they aren't mutually exclusive, but the things reported in biographies of him that could be called symptoms are all about how he jumped from thing to thing to thing and couldn't sit still; nothing about social problems.
I had read that he was a loner, and that he dropped out of school early (6th grade or so?). The problem in really trying to figure it out now, is that society is so different from what it was 100 years ago. At that time, the Victorian culture was still strong, and any weaknesses or flaws were covered up and not talked about. If he had trouble making or keeping friends, or came across as a strange character, it would have been hushed in favor of his reputation for the inventions. Nobody will ever know.
