I think its possible that King Edward II of England had Aspergers (in addition to being homosexual)
As a monarch, he was totally lacking any ambition, and he would be led around by whomever his current court favorite was (and lover) His main hobbies were digging ditches, boating, tinkering with machines, and various crafts, and all of these things were considered bizarre and especially undignified for a monarch or noble of the Middle Ages.
Edward was also described as having "little self-confidence."
He was tall with an impressive physique (it was said,) but despite this, he had no interest in Knighthood, war, nobility/statecraft, which were the overwhelming interests of upper-class men at this time. He was a complete homebody with a feminine streak who totally failed to get on with his hyper-masculine father (King Edward I....... some of this is detailed in 'Braveheart') He was overly devoted to unscrupulous and ambitious friends who used him for their own purposes.
Edwards Reign was of course a complete failure, rife with mismanagement, military-failure, corruption, and court favoritism. Eventually he was deposed, and Edward was such a complete albatross and so hated that no one had any idea what to do with him........... :s
I think its definitely possible he had AS........ reading about his early relationship with his father, and his orientation towards such odd and "effeminate" interests. Ditch-digging seems like an obsessive type of thing that could captivate him, and boating seems like kind of a nice solitary pursuit that appealed to him, in order to escape the rigorous training as a squire that I'm sure he detested. I fairly imagine he detested the intense training in knighthood and kingship piled on him as a boy and only wanted to withdraw.
