Going places alone is the best, I always feel self conscious when my friends are around, and my family always tends to make me look like an idiot when I'm with them in a store or whatever. So I prefer to go most everywhere alone. Then again, as a guy, my thought process is more like "Who stand against me?" Also, I'm not shy about asking for directions, where stuff is, etc. I figure in public, 99% of the time, I'll never see those people again anyway, so it doesn't matter how I act at all really, as long as I'm not like, a really really huge idiot.

I think the whole "not wanting to go places alone" is a girl thing. My sister is the same way, she's pretty decidedly NT, from what I can tell, but absolutely hates going places alone. Until she was 15-16, she'd have people order for her at restaurants and check out stuff for her at cash registers. Girls seem to always want a companion with them as a protector or whatever, always wanna do things with friends or a group. Just look at Walmart, and see how many younger women (as you get older you either adapt or don't care) are there without boyfriends. Not a whole lot.

I do alright in familiar surroundings alone. Someplace new though, or someplace I've been before, but the unexpected might happen, I'll wait until my wife can go with me. She's the same way so it works out alright between us. We just wait for each other.

Did anyone actually read my posts or just the thread title?

Okay the other thing that annoys me a lot, is when a person is alone, I think especially if you are female, other people act like maybe you need company. I think it bothers a lot of people to see a woman alone somewhere without an escort. There are times I definitely prefer to be alone, or I don't mind it, like going to a concert for instance, I am there to appreciate the music and I probably don't really want to have a conversation with anyone. But some people will act like they have the absolute right to make conversation with you if you are alone, whereas they won't bother a person who is already with someone.

This annoys me to no end. It has happened to me so many times. Sometimes I don't go see a movie that I want to see if my only choice is a night time showing because the clerks have often asked me why I didn't have a date, arggh.

Looking back, my most fun afternoons were spent aimlessly roaming around New York, DC, Montreal, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, San Jose, and other places by myself. It's just fun and satisfying to be able to decide something looks interesting and be able to go check it out without having to worry about anyone else.

I agree, I love to walk around places and explore the architecture, scenery and the general atmosphere of the place, I also enjoy traveling which I've found is a passion that not everyone shares. I'm hoping to go on a road trip across from London to Paris, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Berlin, Munich, Venice, Rome, Marseille, Madrid, Barcelona and back up the coast. After that, I'd really like to get a camper van and explore different states in America.
