Wow, I was talking to my father about this today. Coffee has this same self-medicating mood enhancing feeling to me; it relaxes me in the very busy transitions of the morning. Also, I am not addicted. Caffeine and peeing is too affective to me. Also, it can disturb my sleep if I drink it at night. So I avoid teas and coffee by night time.
Also too much in the morning, and I am stimming like crazy.
Little tangent, to avoid a stomach ache from the milk with it, I heat the milk in the microwave.

As I understand, the rule of thumb on coffee, is that it makes you more anxious; with the benefit of making you more awake.

Coffee lowers my sensory issues. I drink it every morning while I'm waiting for my ADHD meds to kick in.

Sounds like you like coffee but now can't have it? That's too bad.
Which undoubtedly makes it the most attractive thing ever. That sucks.

Suggestion for those who find coffee is too effective like me. I started using an electric kettle, a french press, and a coffee grinder to make my coffee in the morning. A French press and seeping the crushed coffee beans allows a lot of leeway in how strong you want the drink to be. So, you can make it a lot weaker for your needs; also a simple french press makes coffee a lot more funner to make and is said to be a more appropriate method of making coffee.

Put coffee/hot water, wait, press down the filter.

Pour and drink.

.
You can wait and let the coffee beans stay in the water longer. Or you can grind them down more finely and make it stronger that way.

I use a french press (cafetiere to those of us in the UK), four heaped tablespoons to make three mugs of coffee. All consumed in under an hour.

It lifts my mood, but it's not a relaxed state. Happy and relaxed are not the same thing for me at all. I can be happy and ready to self propel to the moon.

I've always found stimulants relaxing... except for caffeine. I take daily prescribed doses of methamphetamine and find it to be very calming. Caffeine, however, causes enormous anxiety. Just goes to show that everyone responds differently.

Meth. Great relaxing to the point of sleep drug, if I do say so myself. The best relaxing drug is not a stimulant, but propofol. You get such a feeling of euphoria seconds before it knocks you out.

All coffee does for me is make me pee a lot. A cup goes in, a gallon comes out.
I like the taste, but it's not worth all the trips to the bathroom.

But I do drink tons of Red bull, and Mtn Dew(sometimes).
Caffeine is just a way of life for me. I've been known to drink a can of Red bull and go straight to bed.

Coffee and energy drinks actually make me tired. I don't buy energy drinks anymore. They've become a waste of money. Tea gives me an energy boost, but it doesn't make me hyper. Colas don't do anything to me. They have no effect on me at all.

I hate coffee and energy drinks. However, when I took a stimulant medication to help me concentrate on my work but it did the opposite. I could hardly sit for 5 minutes and I could barely sleep at night. I can easily stay up for 24 hours straight if you'd let me, even without that medication.

I'm having a nice, relaxing cup of coffee right now, so to speak.

coffee makes me lose my appetite, which is nice if I want to eat less.
It generally makes me feel slightly nauseous, so I don't regularly drink it.
It definitely doesn't wake me up or energizes me at all.

Strange thing is, tea does! I have to have tea (lots of it!)
It makes me feel more alive in a way.
Makes me hyper and I love it, but if I drink it in the evening I cannot sleep at all! (coffee which is famous for doing this, had no effect whatsoever on my sleep)

If coffee is making you nauseous I can suggest making sure to drink water after, because you may be dehydrating. Or maybe the dry coffee breath is so disturbing that it makes you nauseous; eat something after/with it; don't drink it alone.

I can feel nauseous due to the coffee for the two reasons above. Being dehydrated especially lowers the effect of coffee for me.
