Parent Qualities
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to share an email I sent to my friends from the Computing Workshop, the summer camp I have been a part of for quite some time. I could use some input, when you get the chance of course! Thank you in advance!
Hello Computing Workshop friends,
I want to share a story about an Autistic man who has received a large amount of ridicule on the Internet. His name is Christian Weston Chandler. In order to understand why he receives such ridicule, I suggest you either click the link above or Google search his name. I am not going to go into great detail about him in this email, and this is mainly because I find his story to be incredibly sad and unfortunate. I am going to provide you a link with a video of Christian giving his viewers a tour of his house, which is overly cluttered.

So, after viewing this video and reading about Christian’s story, I want to ask you a question.
What qualities/skills do you think are essential for parent(s) of a child with Autism/Asperger’s to possess? How can these skills/qualities determine their success in the real world?
I would very much appreciate it if you could provide ideas. I have my own ideas, but I would like to hear others as well.

Uh-oh. Here we go again...
Not sure how Chandler's situation relates to parenting, so that part confuses me, but if you haven't see it before, a lot of posts that are made about this guy have a bad tendency to turn into flame wars.

It seems to me his parents did not know how to discipline him and set boundaries. They also seem to be the people who influenced his homophobic, selfish and bigoted attitude. I think it has something to do with parenting.

That could be, but it seems to me any such speculation would be nothing more than, well, speculation.
(BTW: When you respond to a post with a quote, it's best to add your response at the bottom. Not that there's anything wrong with the way you did it, it's just that pretty much everyone here does it that way, and when we all do it the same way, it's easier to follow the threads because we can read them naturally from top to bottom.
