Hello :)

Fairly new here, only stumbled across this forum and the possibility that i may have Asperger's in the past 6 months or so, so i'm trying to piece bits of me together to make more sense.. if that itself makes sense to anyone?!

One thing i've always felt is a lot more normal at night.. more comfortable in every way and at my best at around 4 - 5am, especially when the sun is just rising. Like now, for instance, where i am it's 12.20am and i feel great.. like i'm finally just ready to take on the day. Considering i've been awake since 6am, it's taken me a long time!

I've got a couple of theories already on why this might happen..

Firstly i have low-ish blood sugar (not diagnosed, i just know mine's is screwed) and think that by night time i've finally taken on enough food or whatever to keep me ticking over normally

Or.. I'm so nervous/stressed socially that i only feel settled when i'm all alone with just the PC for company.

I just wanted to run this by you guys in the forum to see if there may be an Aspie link that explains it a bit better, anyone else relate to this??

I definitely feel at my best when it's dark out. But I also seem to feel better on less sleep, to a point. If I sleep too much I'm useless, but if I've been up all night I start my day before the sun rises and feel awesome all day.

Yes. I am a real night owl. I have tried to change over the years, but I keep drifting back into waking up in the afternoon, and going to bed very late at night.

I sleep at 5am and get up just after midday. It then takes me 9 hours, cigarettes and many cups of coffee to wake up lol

Thanks guys :) Snpeden.. i totally agree with you there, when i've had only a few hours sleep i'm a lot more switched on than usual i surprise myself!

I sometimes wish that days were a lot longer, when i'm in one of those moods where i'm totally on the ball (like now) it seems like such a waste as when i sleep it usually vanishes again. Tomorrow i'll go back to being two steps behind all day and then perking back up after midnight, and so it continues....

My sleep schedule lately has been from around 7-8 am until 3-5 pm. I spent the first half of the year actually sleeping from 2 am until 11 am-ish.

Mostly, I'm pretty nocturnal.

I'm always at my most relaxed, creative and overall happiest at night. I go to bed anywhere between 2 to 5:30 AM and wake up between 11 AM - 3:30 PM.

I reckon most people here are nocturnal. :)

I'm not autistic myself, and would probably just miss a diagnosis. I worked out a while back that my natural pattern would be to go to sleep at about 4am and get up at about noon-ish. My son, who is diagnosed with Asperger's is also a night owl, and my mother who has more than a few traits, is similar.

It does take me a bit of time to get going, and lots of coffee. I'm usually alert by about 2pm. :D

Fortunately, I work from home and pretty much set my own diary commitments, so I work mostly in the afternoons and evenings ... into the wee small hours.

I'm naturally nocturnal, but due to work I tend to have to simulate a day person often.

Ah, so lucky! I would love that :) I'm at college at the mo and my best work seems to happen when i'm up all night writing an assignment.. Unfortunately i have one due tomorrow though which is going nowhere (partly because i'm pottering around on here ;) ) Can't see me making my 7.45am bus tomorrow somehow!

Same here, the cycle just repeats over and over.

It would be interesting to see some official research to find out just how common being nocturnal is for aspies.
Maybe it's the sensitivity to light & background noise that drive some to seek the peace and quiet of the night.

I know at least that why I like the night. The world is just so much easier to deal with at night.

It's always been torture for me during times when I'd have to adhere to a daytime schedule. I'd never be able to wake up until sun down, and all the hustle and bustle of the daytime would drive me crazy.

Some nights I don't even sleep at all. I have been awake since 4pm yesterday. I did take a nap a few hours ago though. I will hopefully get some sleep tonight though. I hate not being able to sleep. Once I do fall asleep it is very hard for me to wake up.
