Exactly, I don't ever do the other way.

i think so. im not sure what is normal. im pretty sure i never learned the 'correct' method, in my method i have to double knot or it will slip. Actually back when i messed around with shoe laces i would tie knot on top of knot until there was not enough left for another knot. I think i recall being made fun of for this. I distinctly recall not being able to tie them in any shape or form well into first grade, possibly second. Now i wear western boots. no laces at all. i will never go back

also had big difficulties with left and right. Didn't sort this till I learnt to drive.

Lol I was the same!

The instructor would say "take the next left..." and I'd mistakenly indicate right - he'd then say "ok, the other left" lol...

I eventually learned to tell my left from my right because yourleft hand can make an 'L' shape...

Same here. I never saw any reason to learn the "correct" way since this way gets the job done.

Try every few minutes on bad days.

Every few minutes?! If that happened to me, I would never wear laced shoes! I'd go back to wearing velcro.

I'm 21 and still can't tie my shoes.

But however, I'm happy with the lace-free shoes I like a lot,
even though they're slightly more expensive.

Yeah, same here. 9 when I learned how to cycle, I think about ten years old when I switched from velcro-strap shoes to shoelaces.

I still can't swim though.

I'm an adult and I still find it tricky (though doable). These days I just leave my shoes tied at all times (even when I take them off) so that I never have to tie them.

Hence my wearing velcro. :D I find laces endlessly frustrating.

I had trouble learning to do that, but once I tried it by myself, I got it down fairly easily. It was evidently a problem in the teaching method or with trying to understand an explanation, rather than to just do it. Same with riding a bicycle; I failed miserably when anyone would try to explain it, but once I carefully watched and understood how a bicycle balances, and that the inertia causes the bicycle to "want" to stay upright, and the forces which help or hinder that, it was easy. I couldn't ride a bicycle 'til I was about 11, but by 13, I was riding motorcycles like an old pro.

I wonder how many people on this thread who have problems tying their shoes have some form(s) of synesthesia that they are aware of ?

Absolutely no trouble at all.

I thought I struggled some but after seeing a lot of (normal) kids struggling to learn it... compared to them, I did not struggle and taught myself to tie my shoes exceptionally fast.
