Over the years I've heard plenty of people talking about the concept of "laughing at someone" and I see that its usually portrayed as a negative thing. Theres even sayings about it like "the jokes on you" or "not laughing with you, laughing at you" which are clearly intended to be an offensive statement. Is this another NT thing that people on the spectrum can't relate to? I find nothing at all funny about the mistakes or misfortunes of others. I feel bad when I see that kinda thing, the last thing I feel like doing is laughing about it. I was talking to someone there who didn't even believe me that you can laugh without someone being the "butt of the joke". I find absurdity funny and that doesn't require me to laugh at the expense of anyone. I like Monthy Python style humor. Last thing I found real funny was the movie Tucker and Dale vs Evil, the bit where the cop shows up and the two rednecks are standing there with a pair of legs and a torso and try to explain the situation. There was no "butt of the joke" there, it was the absurdity of the situation that was funny. Do you understand this laughing at someone elses expense concept or do you have a different concept of humor entirely?

It's very hard for me to go along with it even though I have at times made fun of people that way. I later feel bad but they laugh it off. I love Monty Python humour too.

It's not strictly an NT thing. It's just that different people have different kinds of humour...and this kind of thing seems to vary as much as people themselves vary, regardless of being AS or NT.

I'm on the spectrum and find certain forms of schadenfreude (what you just described) amusing. I laugh endlessly at Maury and Jerry Springer because the guests on there are essentially choosing to be on there and so it's their fault that they are submitting themselves to ridicule.

What I don't like is when people make fun of others who are just born different, specifically people with disablities.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

I really dislike humor at someone else's expense (unless it is taking the piss out of someone who typically laughs at others in a mean way).

I like Monty Python too but find it sort of boring at the same time. I have the whole series on dvd. It's soothing to have it on but I don't really pay much attention to it or laugh at it.

It pains me to watch shows like Jerry Springer. I watched this English show and it was pretty entertaining and awe inspiring to see the level of degeneracy displayed by the people on the show but I wasn't laughing at them and it pissed me off seeing how the clearly sadistic host was trying to make fun of them and belittle them.

I like the Monty Python style of humor too.
I never liked the kind of humor that ridiculed other people (Maybe because I was bullied/on the receiving end of the ridicule). I don't find comedians that target people in the audience to make fun of to be funny. :/

That would be Jeremy Kyle, he is an assh*le, yet he will only say he is being honest.

His wife claims that he was also a gambler and stole thousands of pounds from her bank, I guess no one can truly attack someone than the newly reformed...(though I do not know how true that story is, it is on the wiki)

Yeah thats the one. Hes a scumbag isn't he. It seems like his sole intention is to criticize and belittle the people on his show. He seems to take advantage of the fact that the people have a limited vocabulary and can't verbally defend themselves very well.

Conclusion: Aspies like Monty Python.

I don't laugh at people, I laugh at the things they do.

I also like that Monty Python humour. I don't like being the butt of other peoples jokes.

As a child my mother and I were always butting heads about her sense of humor. She tends to mock me for being "different" and I couldn't find the power to ignore it. I'm not as tense about it now but I still have high standards on humor and recklessness. I do not tolerate jokes where someone is being made fun of very well even if it is light.

I'm captivated by verbal humor and whimsical feats of coordination or strength. I first lose interest, but quickly become impatient with sadism, irony, or cheaper shows of glitz.

I have an agreement with L (AS) that I never have to listen to more than two episodes of Monty Python in a row. I just don't get it. I like visual or verbal word plays. I like Whoopi Goldberg among others. Slapstick isn't funny. Shakespeare is hilarious.

I don't like Monty Pyhton (perhaps because I've actually watched their other 90% of stuff that isn't funny or memorable) or other old fasgioned humor. I enjoy Jimmy Carr and Bill Bailey.

I don't think there is anything unusual about autistic senses of humor, it might lean towards more technical stuff like XKCD or some such but many "NT" folk enjoy this too.
I'm an "NT" and I quite love XKCD, dry humor, dark stuff, witty stuff: areas people here have claimed to like due to being autistic.
