To get right to the point, I was wondering if any Aspies reading this have dark rings under the eyes, like myself?
Having seen photos of other Aspies that have dark rings as well, I have begun to ponder whether or not this is a symptom synonymous with a diagnosis of Autism; personal insight from other members will, hopefully, prove to me whether or not this has been a simple coincidence.

On a side note, I hope everyone has been enjoying their holidays so far.

I don't know if dark rings are synonymous with Autism, but I remember having them since I was very young, 7-8 years old or so. Interesting observation!

I have dark circles around my eyes. It's kinda linked with my stimulant use though (caffine pills, I'm addicted to them. I rarely sleep)

I always had them under my eyes. As an adult, they are more visible. I don't know if it's linked with ASD or not. As a child I hadn't read much but perhaps used my eyes staring at objects and toys more than others. After I had become more interested in books I read more than others, I think, so it might have contributed to it.

Could the dark rings have to do with sleeping difficulties. In researching a couple articles I wrote on the subject, I found studies showing that insomnia tends to be a difficulty encountered on the autism spectrum. Is this true in your experiences?

Dark eye circles can also be related to allergies.

I do, but to be fair it's probably something to do with me not getting enough sleep, because I stay up late reading comics.

i don't unless i am sick, or didn't get much sleep.

my mom always new that when i got the dark rings under my eyes i was sick. and it happens every time i am sick.

so it is hard to fake being sick for me. :)

Don't most people have dark rings under their eyes?

I've had them for as long as I can remember. I've had a number of people throughout the years (mostly girls) ask if I'm wearing makeup. But, I don't have allergies and I get plenty of sleep.

Sometimes it's from lack of sleep, sometimes from allergies and sometimes it's from hyperpigmentation which is genetic. I have that and so did my father. Mine are very dark and I wear concealer just so I don't to repeatedly tell people that no, no one hit me. My lids are dark too, someone complemented me on my eye shadow once and I don't wear it.

Permanent dark rings under the eyes is largely a genetic trait.

All the common causes of occassional dark rings have already been suggested. The only other one I have to add - especially in kids - dark rings pop up with digestive difficulties. It's how you can tell - in some kids - if they are constipated. Seeing how many on the spectrum have significant digestive difficulties that seems like an apropo association.

Yep, I've had them my whole life. Theres a home video from when I was 4 and my mother was trying to wash what she thought was dirt off my face but was actually black rings under my eyes.
