Disclaimer: I know that you are not doctors. But I assumed that because a great many of you here do have Asperger's syndrome, that you may be able to do a quick "web assessment" and tell me, from your experienced opinion, whether or not you think that it could be Asperger's and if not, what it sounds like. Okay, so here are some things that I was able to recollect and gather into a list:

1. I was born prematurely, at 24 weeks gest.
2. I am very introverted, even with my own family, and cannot be with people for too long.
3. I was a bedwetter until age 11
4. Loner by nature
5. Afraid of people looking at me, I start to feel scared and want to hide in my room all day
6. If I do not feel like talking, I will whine (ex. Mom says good morning, I will moan)
7. Only one friend
8. I have stuffed animals that I sleep with, and tuck in at night. They have names and personalities
9. Stopped playing dolls at age 14.
10. Awkward walk, which I didn't notice. People have told me to start walking more "female"
11. I walk very fast, no matter what, and cannot slow down.
12. Terrified of loud noise, or too much noise. As a child motors would make me cry.
13. Sever separation anxiety up until 4th grade. In school, I cried (even at 9) when dropped off
14. Late talker, and mom said she thought I would be "slow"
15. Sometimes, I get tongue tied when reading or speaking aloud.
16. I ask too many questions, and it annoys people, (especially professors)
17. Short term obsessions, such as doll making, moccasins, origami, nail designs, drawing, stephen king books, painting, astrology, psychopharmacology, etc. But they do not last very long.
18. Confused about sexual attraction. I thought one roommate liked me just because she was nice to me
19. People say I have a monotone voice.
20. People say I have no emotions. This is not true but I am not very expressive
21. Hugs and saying I love you are very difficult for me, I get extremely uncomfortable, but don't know why
22. Long periods of isolation caused by fear of social interaction
23. I must be moving and pressing my fingers into one another constantly
24. I must rub my feet together constantly.
25. I can only fall asleep on my stomach
26. Socks can cause me great discomfort, but this is not as bad as it was in childhood
27. I press on my eyes to see the color patters (try it, and you will see what I mean)
28. I asked a cousin to come with me into a closet to masturbate when we were about 5 years of age. I do not know how relevent this is.
29. I also "touched" another cousin while she slept for sexual gratification but I was only 9 and she was 4 and I promise I am not a child molester or pedophile.
30. As a child, I used to run up to women who were wearing pantyhose and rub their legs for the texture. My mother tells me.
31. My mother said I would freeze with a strange expression on my face, bearing my teeth, and stay like that for a minute then release.

I am sorry its so long.

It could be. I think it's definitely worth seeking a professional opinion. And, welcome to WP.

Certainly could be. You should pursue a definitive medical diagnosis as soon as it is feasible for you to do so.

You mention a lot of things that I can relate to. But:

Quote:
27. I press on my eyes to see the color patters (try it, and you will see what I mean)

I absolutely love this. I often press them for ages. The patterns get more vivid the longer you do it.

I was convinced by the time I got to #16, I think that there's no doubt you are on the spectrum.
:? Hmm... Something is wrong with my grammar.

I used to do this all the time in my childhood and teen years.

Depending on where you live there may be low cost or free diagnostics available. There is no medication for ASD as such. Medication may be helpful for some symptoms. Some of the items on your list don't have anything to do with ASD other than as perhaps not knowing social appropriateness at the time. Yah, could be.

There is no cure or medication for it. But there are strategies. That's where a psychologist or psychiatrist may be able to help, once you're able to afford it.

In the meantime, I'd suggest picking up some books on Asperger's Syndrome. (Especially the one by Tony Attwood.) Try to learn all you can about it. Regardless of whether you "have" Asperger's, some of the strategies that many of us find helpful, could be helpful for you too.

The diagnosis is mostly symbolic. It's a matter of personal identity and seeing yourself as part of a larger community. Many people identify themselves as such without getting a diagnosis. It may be worth looking through some of the many threads about diagnosis and self-diagnosis on this forum.

There is such a thing as too much information, even here. From what you've put down I'm inclined to say you most definitely have an autistic spectrum disorder, possibly AS. But as you said, we're not all doctors. You should go talk to a psychiatrist.
