this thread is for people to post specific resources which can be used to help people who are having suicidal thoughts. these might be hotlines or websites in your local area, as we'd like to build up a database of resources to use if we need to. the resources need to be available online or by phone, if possible, so that they are easily accessible.

to prevent vulnerable members being deluged with well-meaning PMs and the like, we would ask that only named people forward any resources on to them.

please, please do not use this thread for discussing the topic - there are other threads for this - as it is for easily accessible resources only.

the format of your suggestion should go like this:

Quote:
Location:

Name of resource:
Contact number/webite address:
Other relevant information:

to start the ball rolling, here is an example:

U.K. (including the Republic of Ireland)

The Samaritans.
tel: 08457 90 90 90 (UK)
1850 60 90 90 (ROI)
http://www.samaritans.org.uk/

additional info:
available 24 hours
confidential and unbiased support.
calls charged at local rate.

The Samaritans is a good recommendation. Even though they are UK-based, you can send e-mail to their site anytime and they will respond within 24 hours. I've needed them a few times in the last year and they've always come through for me.

Whilst not providing support for mental health issues, the Citizens Advice Bureaux are there to advise and advocate for people in the UK with debt, benefit issues, housing issues, employment issues, and so on. They are a free service. They can be very busy, but are well worth getting hold of in times of confusion / financial difficulty as they can clarify lots of things or speak on you behalf to certain organisations of you aren't coping at that time.
