We use it with my 5yr old son. Been doing it about 18 months, he doesn't talk. Its a good tool for him to articulate his wants, otherwise we would have little communication.

Picture Exchange Communication System= PECS. Not the variety up above!

I personally don't need it but I can see how it could help less verbal autistic people.

Looking for free PECS is hard, as it seems that a lot of people are invested in making a lot of money on it. It was easy for me to find shareware text to speech, but PECS is not so easy.

Here is link to free PECS call Pictos. You have to download and install. There are thousands of pictos. You get a little programma on your comopter and can make sheets as you want to. Then you can print the sheets and laminate them.

They help me a very much.

Wrongplanet doesnot let me post the link becuase of fewer than 5 posts! So I give adescription of the place:
Name is: Picto selector.
You have to go to download picto selector.

If you have an iPad/iPod Touch or an iPhone you can use an app called Proloquo2Go which I've heard is PHENOMINAL. You can make your own PECS with clip art too if you want

Proloquo is great, from what I've heard, but the problem with it is that it is incredibly expensive, for an app. There's a picture/sound app called iComm, however, which is about $150 cheaper to get the full version, completely free if you just get the version that doesn't include sound. It's very do-it-yourself, you can upload your own pictures for the various categories and add your own categories, also. It is a great AAC app, I downloaded the free version to show to the mother of the nonverbal girl I nanny for, and it's pretty cool.
