I just found out about high functioning autism, but read on a couple of sites the difference isn't that big. Do you think those few differences deserve an entire new category?

Nah.

It might be more likely that you have a better performance IQ than verbal, and you'd need to have that checked out if you're having problems with verbal stuff at school. You might have better motor skills than someone with AS, or at least in early life, though your verbal skills wouldn't have been as good in early life compared to the person with AS.

The rest of the stuff is about the same when you get past the early verbal difficulties.

I'm not sure that I understand the question correctly. There is a category for HFA already after all - it's classical/kanner's/infantile autism. Based on questionable subjective "evidence" a person with classical autism may get semi-officially categorised as having HFA, MFA or LFA.
