Ever since I went to college I have had difficulty recognizing new people I have met and remembering their names. I don't seem to have this problem with people in my classes but rather with people who I don't have any kind of context by which to remember them. for example, I recognize Emily from english without a problem but not someone from my dorm who I have talked to several times but still have problems recognizing them. This wouldn't be a problem except that a lot of people know me but I cannot recognize them

You could try friending them on facebook. For me, seeing someone's face and name together frequently helps me to be more familiar with them in real life.
