NT group pack mentaitliy?

Have you noticed how BIG groups of NT people in a lot of settings can all behave the same way if a certain situation arises. what is worse is that it seems they can all behave in a cruel manner in large groups towards another indivudal. you would be suprised that even NT people who are nice can switch too being nasty if everyone else behaves nasty etc..... i guess even in the good people there there can be a bit of bad that comes out these types of events since a lot of people are a mixture of good and bad. it really is only the true genuine nice people who do not behave in this way. that and maybe most people are just a**holes?

types of people who may not behave in this way are people from very proffesional backgrounds or who are neurodivrse

I don't know if this is just exclusive to NT people? Is there a reason for this? I call it group pack mentality

That's one of the reasons that I'm glad I'm not an NT. I don't wish to be like that.

Why do you think NTs behave that way? Are they just obssessed with conforming, following the crowd and fitting in? even if it means behaving in a bad way?

I don't think it's exclusive to any group.

I think people behave that way in groups because they have people behind them and with them, which, in my eyes, pressurises the individuals to "impress" their mates by being nasty. There are probably other reasons, but I've never been part of a group so I wouldn't know.

*nods* Like lynch mobs. It's pretty horrifying to see, and seems almost instinctive for NTs. I hope there's a positive version, but I haven't seen it. Being immune to weird peer pressure is one of the perks of being on the spectrum, I guess.

Another example would be say if someone in the neighbourhood community does something that upsets some people in the community. they then hunt down the guy in a large in the street and all the members start shouting at him and ganging up on him.

see what i am getting its like people are cold blooded at times.

it seems that the majority thinks there's safety in numbers, for the sake of communal reinforcement click.

IMO they're just afraid to use what stands between their ears because if they do they might not be as popular as they are when they aren't using it.

Yeah, I think knowing things like this is what gives me my fear of crowds. I never liked big groups of people to begin with, but I was horrified when I learned what mobs were capable of. Scary stuff!

I'm so glad that I don't get sucked into that. I'm always the person grumbling while everyone else is cheering and loving everything.

I definitely know what you mean by the "pack" mentallity. I'm glad that I realise that and don't get sucked into it myself.

People do sometimes change their opinions, or pretend to, just to impress a large group or just fit in. If there's somebody who is popular and "powerful" within a group of people, people will quickly change the way they're acting or their opinions to impress this person, and nobody wants to be the one being left out and laughed at. Sadly this means that people sometimes turn kind of nasty when in a group, even if they're a nice person otherwise.

I tend to avoid being in a group. I hate the way that people are so often influenced too much by others around them. In a group you don't always know what to do, who to trust, or who is on your side (or isn't). It's kind of tiring keeping up with everything.

Being aware of this pack mentality is a good thing. Observing who the "leaders" of the pack are is also a good thing to know. If the pack become oppressive, abusive or violent, and one cannot get away, it is many times possible to break the pack mentality by weakening or removing the pack leaders. In many cases, when riots occur, the police try to identify the leaders or instigators so that they can be arrested and removed. Once this is done, the riot is usually over with very quickly.

I am still developing my immunity. I'm pretty NT, despite being HFA.

What is it with NTs and manipulation?

I don't believe the "mob mentality" forces someone to do anything they're 100% morally opposed to, and I don't believe people make a 180° turn morally to "fit in" or "impress a group". Usually a mob gathers for a specific reason, and the people in that mob share at least one common interest. Attack that interest and there's always a chance the group will turn against you. The individuals in a mob are usually in a highly emotional state which means it's easy for the mood to change in a short amount of time. Even otherwise "peaceful" demonstrations are vulnerable to this, and people gathering for a good cause run the risk of becoming part of unruly mob or riot if emotions are not kept in check.

Mob mentality is also what decides the prices of stocks and collectables. If people, as a group, decide something (like a comic book, or a share of Microsoft) is valuable, the price shoots up. If collectors or investors decide it's worthless, the price drops. If anyone's read "Tulipmania" in the book Extraordinary Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, it does a great job of illustrating the economic impact of crowds.

People esspecially who are in the 'grey area' between bad and good quickly switch to becoming abusive and loud in a large group. the bad people are the leaders at the front causing a lot of suffering, you might even get some good people towards the back heckling.

The true good, saintly and responsible people of course would not be in the pack or if they were they would be trying to calm down the situation.

My opinion of course is that it might give NTs some kinda thrill like how us aspies get a thrill out of doing our special interests.
