Can drawing be considered a special interest? I love to draw in great detail and I get very absorbed in it, to the point of drawing for hours on end without realizing how much time has passed or even sometimes remembering to stop to to things such as eat. However, I don't necessarily talk about it with anyone, it's just something I do. I'm going in for diagnosis in a couple of months and I was wondering if I should bring this up as a possible special interest. I meet all of the other diagnostic criteria, with the exception of a special interest, unless this would be considered to be one. Does anyone else draw or the like as part of their special interest?

Fascinating theory, dobrolvr.
I must think about this.

From the DSM-IV
encompassing preoccupation with one or more stereotyped and restricted patterns of interest that is abnormal either in intensity or focus.

Anything can become a special interest and would be considered "pathological" if it takes up huge amounts of time. So if you draw for hours and hours a day and it interferes with the rest of your life then yes it's a 'special interest'.
