I was diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder (Asperger type) when I was 19. At the same time I was diagnosed with mild-moderate Tourette syndrome, OCD and 'possible' ADD. Last year aged 23 I was re-diagnosed although my Tourettes is now in the moderate-severe range, OCD has gone from crippling to 'just a tad annoying' and I was officially diagnosed with ADHD combined type.

I was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at age 38, last year December. The diagnosis explains I have a kind of high functioning autism.

Age 18/19 (I think?)

Preliminary diagnosis after testing for an ASD: a form of autism.

Diagnosis after IQ-testing in order to determine whether there's an additional cognitive impairment (=HFA according to the doc) or whether IQ is average or higher (=AS): F84.5 Asperger's Syndrome

Age 20.

ADHD

To be exact: F90.8 other hyperkinetic disorder (because "real" ADHD can't exist with an ASD yet), differential diagnosis F90.0 disturbance of activity and attention (=normal diagnosis of ADHD)

So - all of you who got dxd prior to 8 years old- was that a good thing or a bad thing for you?

A very good thing. For me, it meant that I walked around with the knowledge I was autistic from a very young age, so it was a part of me for most of my childhood growing up- a part of me I, and all those around me, always took into consideration. It brought a lot of clarity.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's and ADHD when I was 12. Before then it was PDD-NOS. I got diagnosed with Asperger's because where I live PDD-NOS means NOTHING, you can't get any help if you have PDD-NOS.

I finally got diagnosed at the age of 27, almost a decade ago. My suspicions were triggered by a number of things, one of which was a couple of "friends" badmouthing me behind my back about weird behaviours and statements "it's like he can't read your body language, he's so robotic". The whole time, I was being told by incompetent psychiatrists that I was clearly ADHD, as if the only root cause of misinterpreting people is due to lack of concentration.

My recent shrink in the late 90s was in his late 50s which may have had something to do with the ongoing misdiagnosis; whereas the doctor I saw at the turn of the 2000s was a resident who'd just started out, and she was completely up on the latest psychology. You'd think the more experienced doctor would have noticed, but he was too jaded to see it.
