The code authentication when you join websites are something that I always have trouble with- when they are distorted and with a patern on the background I always struggle to read them. And the audio versions you can select if you have difficulty reading them are just as difficult to understand.

Anyway- I was considering this poll early in the week but didn't think that it was an issue that many of you would be interested in. However another member (codeman) has brought this to the attention of the mods today so I decided that it might be a good idea to find out how many of you also have trouble with this so we can work out a solution if neccessary to help other new members.

Please vote on the poll so we can see how many of you have a problem with these.

Thanks :)

I normally get them wrong about 3 out of every 4 times. It is always a pain, and I don't see the point.

I have not seen message board spam programs sophisticated enough to anyalyze a jpeg image and "read" the word even if it was in plain text. So why bother with all the damned lines?

Personally, I've never had a problem with reading them at all, sorry....

No need to be sorry- if I hadn't expected that some people wouldn't have a problem with them I wouldn't have included that option in the poll :)

Oh no!! Don't start that- I'm bad enough at that myself and if we get into that this conversation could take weeks

Mel (trying really hard not to say sorry for saying don't be sorry)

I had a lot of problems with the msn one- I gave it 3 attempts and then attempted the audio one which was even worse.

You got to wonder if they actually want you to sign up.

That one's easy! It's "U2RNG5RK".

Unless that "t" at the end is really supposed to be a "t" and not random lines.

I have lots of trouble with knowing what they say. It suprises me when people say they find them easy.

My sister gave me a calander she had made with the dates that my daughter comes home coloured in. My young niece had drawn lines in lead pencil over it. I spent about 5 minutes trying to decode all the lines. I had a chuckle with my sister when I finally asked her what they meant, and she told me what they actually were. I have since rubbed them out. :)

Because it was done so that we could see how many people had a problem with this and if it was an issue we need to work on. Once we've decided what to do the thread will be de-stickied.

It wasn't a thread I did out of personal interest but as site business.

Alex ia adding a support email address for those who might have problems with the CAPTCHA when joining Wrong Planet.

Thanks for taking part in the poll- I'll leave this as a sticky for a couple more days.

Thanks- Mel :D

Oh, I have the hardest time reading the ones on MSN and Yahoo. It might not be so bad if it were actually a coherent word among all those lines, but it's just random letters and numbers, which I have a hard enough time copying correctly even WITHOUT the lines!
