Anyone else not? I have trouble with grammar and spelling and I was wondering if I was the only aspie who was. I also don't tend to notice when have bad grammar unless it is really, really bad. I'm that kid that reads their schoolwork over a thousand times and still misses grammar errors. My friend told me that it might be because I know what I want to say so don't notice them.

I don't really know the answer to that. I'm personally a huge grammar geek, but my brother, who also has AS, isn't. He couldn't care less about grammar. So, I doubt it's a rule set in stone... It's probably just a majority who are grammar nerds.

I will never master it myself. Spelling eventualy, but grammar? No. I've taken at least four college classes for English. I have six books that are supposed to help, but I have to read them over and over. For some reason my brain has difficulty accepting the pattern.

I am very good with grammar and spelling, but I really don't care what other people do, as long as I can understand them. I try to use good grammar and spelling myself, though.

i try to maintain at least a minimum level of proper usage, only to make sure i am properly understood by others. the english language [american version] is a marvelously forgiving language, though- which means i can use relatively poor grammar and syntax but still be understood by most people. "me gonna talk real pretty one day, just you see." :)

I am certainly not. I've got difficulty with grammar, it don't make sense to me, and ADD don't help. Of course I'm talking about the infamous french grammar here, a real nightmare of rules.

Why bother speaking French when everyone wants to learn English anyway? Not much point unless you need to.

Also: are you a Cockney? You sound it with your style of writing: "it don't make sense to me" and so on.

French is my first language, and I'm not Cockney.

Are you good in math?

I see the Grammar Nazis everywhere, it's more common among women.

I'm not one naturally, I don't struggle with grammar or language but I do make tiny mistakes and I assure you that I don't give a sh*t LOL.

People who are more inclined with numbers tend to have poor grammar, not always the case and they can improve it if they want to, but it seems common.

If I were gifted in an area like science or math I wouldn't care about grammar, I don't see the perks of being good at something that at most will help you earn in a degree in English.

My user name may or may not have been created with the intent of making the Grammar Nazis immensely uncomfortable.

Yeah, she kinda already told us that...
I bet even though it only had three words you checked your post several times to make sure you didn't have to face the humiliation of having a grammatical error in a snarky post about someone else's grammatical error. that is no way to live my son

I'm not (:

I'm not a grammar Nazi in that I don't impose it on others, but grammar errors drive me absolutely bonkers in my head. The same holds true for any of my OCD areas. Working in environments where I had to share desk space with other employees meant I had to learn to accept that no matter how much I organize the space my way, someone else will eventually mess it up, and I can't let that get to me. This idea has helped me a lot to not take out my OCDness on others or get upset with others for being who they are as opposed to how I wish they would be.

EXPECIALLY - Yep, indeed, but I've come to enjoy the differences in people and the quirks that make them who they are. If I can accept that occasional aphasia means I don't come up with the correct words to use, I can accept the quirks of other people as well, including their intentional misspelling of their log on names. :)

(Red squiggly lines are the work of the devil, I say.)
