:nerdy: i know there's a list of books on this site but what do folks recommend personally? including any not listed on the site. hearing what others found helpful, informative will help me and i'm sure others wade through all the literature.

I have recently been reading Simon Baron Cohen's "The Essential Difference." I have found it most interesting, and thought provoking.
In it, he addresses the apparent differences in the male and female brains, the male brain being wired for systemizing and the female brain for empathizing. It is his belief that the Austistic spectrum represents an extreme form of the "male" brain. This does not preclude women from experiencing it of course, but accounts for the high percentage of males.

I found the discussion of the extreme female brain intersting, as it may already exist, but not be a problem in our society. The extreme empathizer can always find someone to repair their computer or car, but who can we systemizers look to when we fail at socializing?
I'd be very interested to hear some other opinions of this book, as well as other suggested reading.

The book I would recommend to anyone is Tony Attwood's Asperger's Syndrome:A Guide for Parents and Professionals. I bought this book two years ago and I frequently refer back to it.

I just love anything by Edgar Schnider and also Temple Grandin's 'Thinking In Pictures' and then Mark Haddon's book is great, too, though it is fiction . . .

I have one of Tony Attwood's books but I haven't been able to get into it for some reason - probably just me . . .

I recommend the book, "Parenting Your Asperger Child"; it is very informative; the only flaw in it that I can think of is that it's a little bit condescending at first.
