Like we have Animals Rights Watch, perhaps we should have something similiar, like Autism Rights Watch. Its purpose is to critisize countries or people for treating people in the autistic spectrum poorly.

Its purpose will be to protect people on the autistic spectrum from poor treatment, forced cure and to emphasize acceptance of people who are different from the neurotypical persons.

It will cooporate with Human Rights Watch, but still be independent.

Examples Autism Right Watch will take care of may be in countries with compulsory military service, where people with Aspergers Syndrome are not declared unfit, and against their will and their neurological condition, are, despite of their diagnosis, forced into autism-hostile environments (like Eric Chen from Singapore).

It will mainly concentrate on promoting more autism-friendly environments in very collectivistic countries like Iran and Singapore, and direct criticism towards scientists trying to find a cure for autism.

You'd have a hard time going against all the curebie parent groups out there. They own this country when it comes to autism.

All the more reason to take action.

Great idea, IF YOU WANT TO BE "CURED".

Given that the differences from one to another are so vast (some do remarkably well with the structure, etc that the military provides, for example) that it would likely be difficult to really be able to berate an entire country for its treatment unless they treated people inhumanely - in which case there are other safeguards in place (supposedly).

I don't foresee there being a cure, much less a cure forced upon anyone, anytime in the foreseeable future.

Better might be a grassroots movement in your local community to make sure that people there are aware of what ASD's are, and what effect they have on people dx'd with them. Too many people are sadly unaware - including so called professionals - and this is what will ultimately help improve your situation.

Places like Iran and Singapore barely have *human* friendly environments - it would be a tall order indeed to try and get autie friendly environments going there.

Actually I think we vastly overestimate the environment in the U.S. which is almost exclusively curative based. There is a book coming out soon (maybe it already has) called Unstrange Minds about how autism is seen around the world and how just the term "autism" is responsible for the "epidemic". It is also interesting to note that some have cited a statistic that schizophrenics actually do better in certain "3rd world" countries instead of countries like the U.S. and U.K. where they are treated with damaging medications and institutionalized. On another list too someone was mentioning that in India there was more of an acceptance mentality about autistic differences but that is now being changed because of the number of them immigrating to the U.S. and U.K. and sending back info about DAN protocals.
