... if geniuses have more in common with those who are mentally disabled, or the general population, despite the fact that genius is defined as the opposite of retardation?

A great many of them do, but of course, not all. Ever heard of Mensa? http://www.mensa.org

Not that many years ago I visited their site, and found a lot of links there to sites dealing with various mental disabilities. They've redesigned their site since then so if there are links like that still there, they're not that easy to find now. I have a feeling they may have done that because they didn't want the stigma so obvious anymore. There was most certainly a reason those links were there a few years back though.

You mean more in common with the general population than the mentally disabled? If that's what you mean, some yes, and some no. No idea what the percentages might be though.

Well, you have to remember that retardation is only one sector of the disabled. Many geniuses do have a disabilities, but certainly aren't ret*d.

Any sense besides IQ scores, for comparing them with those with mental retardation, and absolutely any sense for those with mental disabilities who aren't ret*d, which includes a significant percentage of those with genius IQs depending on how you define mental disability.

IQ tests generally only test FOUR of the 7 IQs! WHAT does AS affect adversly? Two of the 3 that AREN'T on the test! Actually, it only affects 1(SOCIAL), but the DSM says it may affect the another.

MENSA, contrary to their statements, does NOT care what your IQs are! They care about the COMPOSITE IQ! It IS conceivable that you could pass a test showing a relative CIQ that is pretty high, though others may be low. The SAT, for example, has two parts. One effectively tests 1-2 IQs, and the other one tests another. The spatial IQ, as I recall, is not tested! So being in MENSA does NOT mean that a particular IQ is all that high!

With AS, according to the DSM, as least in DSM4(IIRC) you can not have a composite IQ lower than 1SD below 100. That is often around 85. AGAIN, it doesn't mean a particular IQ is even 85, but the composite has a floor.

Anyway, it seems that a lot of AS people excel in one or more of those areas, or one that isn't measured on the IQ testa.
