Does anyone have vocal tics? Mine change every so often at one point it was constant throat clearing then "sipping" air
They often cause embarrasment of anger among others

Not ant the moment. I used to have them when I did phone work at first, and under stress when younger, but they seem to have disappeared.

I've had both verbal and motor tics since I was at least 10, possibly before then too. As you may notice in my signature, those tics have a name to them.

Everyone thought I did when I was younger, even the doctors. Shows that Doctors aren't always right - I was actually doing it on purpose as part of an obsessive compulsive disorder. It was awful.

I have performed vocal tics nearly all my life in some form. At the moment I'm picking up certain words or phrases that my work colleagues have said, then I'm reciting them usually when I'm excited or frustrated, I think this is known as Delayed Echolalia.

Yes! I have vocal tics, I sound like a teenager going through puberty. I also have facial tics. I didn't even realize it until my husband got a camcorder and he played back the tape. I tried one entire day trying not to move my face because the tape made me so aware. By the end of the day I was a nervous wreck!!

I'm sorry they called you names. People can be so mean sometimes. I wish I could control mine, but unless I'm aware, I don't even try to. It makes me really too nervous to even try.

Yes. They're not very Tourettic though, since they don't change - if it's true that with Tourette's they change over time.

the main difference with Tourretes and AS is that with AS the tics keep changing
those with tourrettes stay the same

Never heard of tics as an AS symptom, actually.

but it would make sense that the two could co-exist since our poor motor skills and tourette's tics are both believed to have their roots in the basal ganglia are of the brain

they are not a symptom per se, but studies have shown a strong correlation between tics and AS

I have a lot of motor tics, and often grunt or breathe oddly. It's never seemed to bother anyone else though so I just ignore them.

I hear that, grunting/throat clearing and odd breathing have been big tics for me since like 4th grade
