The reason I ask is because sometimes people think I am annoying. Such as girls that I IM. They usually are good about it, but sometimes they pretend that it bothers them. What do you usually talk about in AIM? Is it anything interesting? Is it more than what's up or what are you doing?

I am curious.

I can be annoying on it so I only message a few people all the time because I know they are probably in the same boat. Generally, I'll send stupid, creative messages to people but thats about it.. If I think they are getting annoyed then I stop talking to them

I usually only instant message with close friends of mine. A friend and I are writing a story together over AIM, so we do a lot of that together. Other than that, I use instant messaging to help my sister with homework and such. Not much more than that.

I use AIM to chat with family, that are out of the country. I find it easier than phoning and it doesnt cost. I prefer to Email friends.

Unlike my friends, I'm not obsessed with AIM or other messengers. For some reason, I just don't like it... Maybe because it has to do with communication, and I prefer to keep to myself?

Also, when people don't use full sentences, that really irritates me. Is it really so much harder to type "you" instead of "u"? Stop butchering the poor English language!

Yes... I nearly always type in proper English instead of quick IM language. I will occasionally use "LOL", especially when talking to my sister. Even when I am on IM with someone, I still type in a similar manner as I do in the forums or via e-mail. It really annoys some people (ie, my sister), but other people do the same thing.

Aside from the "LOL" abbreviation, I also tend to use "M'kay" or "s'ppose", but that is more for dialect than for time efficiency.

IM is as bad as eye contact. I removed it.

Ugh, I can't stand IMing, text messaging, chat rooms, or any of those types of things. I'd much rather talk on the phone, go on message boards, or see the person I'm talking to in person. I think I'm the only teenager in my area that hates IMing. Oh well!

I have a hard time with the IM or the chat thing...I tend to go blank, it takes me awhile to think of what to say.

I almost never start conversations on IM because I don't know if the other person wants to talk to me, and I don't want to bother them. And if I don't feel comfortable enough starting a conversation with them, then why even bother?

A few friends and I have our own private little forum where we talk instead.

I annoy a few people because I don't always understand what they're saying, I'm having troubles grasping onto what they are saying, I can be naive, I say the wrong things and I don't even know it. I'm innocent. I don't understand what I say is wrong and I'm sure it pisses a few people off so that be one of their reasons for dumping me as a friend. Everything I said above is peoples' reasons for leaving me.

I thrive on IM so much that I forget that I have a cell phone.

I find IM to be much easier than normal social interaction (face to face). Personally I like it. I use text-speak a lot in IM, unlike on forums. It's quicker! :) But, if you wanna say something important, you gotta say it in person.

My favorite thing to do online, is to either get on forums like these, go into chatrooms, or most of all speak on MSN Messenger. It is a great outlet (for some Aspies,) to socialize. Think about it:

There is no eye-contact.
No tone of voice for the person to judge you by.
You are hidden behind a screen.
