Why are aspies so set on doing things the only way we know? Why is it so hard to learn to do things differently? Why do I have to drive the exact same route? Why do I like leaving the house at 7:08 am? Why is it that we are so hard wired to routine and freak if it's not the same? Is there an actual reason? Is it just "part" of this? I find it extremely frustrating yet too comfortable to stop. Can anybody give me a reasonably short answer, please?

Because it is the best way.

I am the same. Give an example. How can I be more efficient? I can change my route if this way is better, less stressful. But then it becomes the only way. We are Aspies and love routine. I hate to break mine, even hate to stop and get gas as that changes everything.

Like to wear the same clothes, even a change is the same outfit as I bought many like Steve Jobs.
Eat lunch at the same time each day

Structure is not a bad thing. I know many who are very unstructured, amazing they can even find their way home? Structure accomplishes goals, purpose, direction. Think of the military. Very structured as is the police department.

Could it be logical reasoning?

If I do this ___, then this___ is the result.

If I do something else (?), then (?) is the result <--- the unknown, unpredictable, unplanned, can not be prepared for.

I have a little switch in my brain (a metaphorical switch), which once in a while needs to be flipped to get into a new routine and better habits.

I feel more comfortable when I stick to a routine I get all muddled if I don't.
I do my washing and housework on a saturday morning if i changed days I would get flustered.
I wouldn't know what day it was.
The same when I do my grocery shopping I prefer to do it on a wednesday.
