On my Deviant art account, I have a stamp that says "proud owner of a curbie beating stick" http://phoenix-kat.deviantart.com/#/d4p44t2 and I don't really know how to describe the term "curbie" in laymen's terms. I have a link that describes it, but it just lists the traits of a "curbie" and aparently some people still don't get it. How can I describe it to someone who isn't famaliar with autism in general?

Its a type of social fascist who believes everyone should think the same way, and those who don't are burdens on society who need to be fixed/removed.

A "curbie" ("KERR-bee") is when a person's teeth are smashed against a street curb, or when a person's leg or arm is propped against a street curb so that someone can stomp on it and break it.

A "Curebie" ("KYOOR-bee") is a person who believes that Aspies should be "cured" of AS/ASD against their wills. This is not in conflict with Ganondox's definition, which is synonymous with "Neuro-Nazi".

"Somebody who believes that an autistic person cannot have a worthwhile or happy life unless they become normal. While pursuing normalcy, often displays extreme disregard for the autistic person's happiness, well-being, health, and self-worth, since he believes that normalcy is more important than all of these things."

You said it! Good definition.

Looks like I'm going to have to fix that stamp a bit then. I wanted to put some puzzle peices in the background anyway.

I think that kind of violent phrase is indicative of fascism.

I think curebie should mean someone who thinks that nobody should have to stay disabled in mental ability once the chance to cure such disabilities comes along. It would mean that intelligence/ability/functioning should belong to all, with nobody having higher advantages in access to it, instead of there being some with so much of it, while there are many others with much less of it through no fault of their own. It would mean thinking that nobody should have to go through any extra burden, toiling, sorrow, pain, fear, or tears, due to them being born without enough aptitude to live their lives.

Maybe if there was an energy drink particularly attune to people on the spectrum and to me in particular that, say, for nine hours helped me de-laser beam my focus and instead broaden and soften my focus, then maybe.

But it would remain my choice.

I think "curbie" is a meaty, substantial concept that can help open-minded persons not on the spectrum start to get it and start to understand, even if I do a clumsy, imperfect job of explaining it.

(and being brief and being open to ping-ponging it back and forth a little is probably more important than being perfect)

It's not meant to be taken seriously. I got the idea from someone who did "proud owner of a weeaboo beating stick" and there are several "proud owner of an emo beating stick" stamps on there. I personaly never suffered becuase of my autism, I suffered from other people's ignonarance and because of "curbies" who wanted to change me. I've run into a few nasty autistic people right here on WP. Not every non autistic person is a "curebie" and not every autistic person is a saint.

S/he's not being literal. The "curebie beating stick" is metaphorical, not a threat to actually beat up anybody who wants to cure autism. It might very well represent an understandable desire to reply very strongly and indignantly to people who insist too much on trying to convince everybody that autism equals a horrible empty existence, though...

Believing in full access to medical care is unrelated to the concept of "curebie"-- to be a curebie you need that extra "your life isn't worth it if you're disabled" bent to your reasoning. Most autism rights advocates believe that autism treatment and therapy, aimed at teaching useful skills (i.e., increasing ability and functioning) is essential. On the other hand, the curebie types often throw potential ability/functioning improvements away because the improvement does not look normal enough for them. For example: Refusing to let a child learn sign because they want the child to speak. Or, medicating a child to prevent him from stimming, even though this also makes him less alert and able to learn.

It doesn't matter if it's a joke. And it's not like an emo hasn't been smacked around before. First of all, that kind of talk tends to precede actual acts of hostility. Not that I'm scared of you. And, if anyone from the opposite side of the issue said that, they would be castigated and held up as an example of how awful curebies are.

I don't know if I would agree that they are mean or not, but you also should watch the way you talk to people. Some of those like you need to show some respect.

Yes indeed - topic title spelling error is now corrected.

The existing therapies/treatments aren't helpful enough in doing that. I don't know of many therapies they condone. They won't even approve of ABA, which has at least, brought improvement to some when it was done right.

I don't know why they would shove drugs into someone for something so innocuous.
