People saying ''sshhhh'' to you

Does this bother anyone else here, or is it just me? I really loathe people saying ''ssshh!'' to me. I always have, ever since I was about 3 or 4 years old, and when I got older I started overreacting. If someone said ''ssshhh!'', I used to yell and scream and get all angry until that person has learnt their lesson to never say it again (unless it's a joke). I also hate it when people tap me so that I would look at them so they can put their finger to their lips which is a non-verbal ''sshhh'', for a reason like we trying not to be heard or something.

Anyone else get these irritated, angry or embarrassed feelings when being told to sshhhh, or is it just me?

I think it's a bit condescending though I'll admit it doesn't happen too much for me. When it is it's usually because I'm unaware of the tone of my voice or general volume so I occasionally, allegedly, speak loudly without noticing. I guess I can't help but find it irritating when people point out that I'm speaking loudly because I'm always unaware of it, though I suppose I can sympathise with them in the sense that I my self would find it irritating when in conversation with someone speaking very loudly as well.

Well... probably not the best way to deal with it.... but I screech really loudly if someone shushes me. I HATE it. If I am being too loud 'use your words'. I got told that enough!

I have a really loud voice and the more excited I get the louder it gets. I'm not aware of it until I get shushed, I've been kicked out of the college library loads of times.

When people tell me to "sshhhh" I either quiet down and respect their request or get real loud and annoy the hell out of them. It just depends on whether I find their request justified. For example, if they're trying to pay bills or talking on the phone I'll quiet down. If they're listening to music and just want to hear their music then maybe they should put some headphones on.

I actually don't think anyone's said that to me.

I get infuriated when people ignore me, so most likely i'd have the same reaction as that.

I know being ignored is really horrible and there's only a certain amount of times you can repeat yourself.

Yes. I also hate it when people call my name after they already have my attention.

It's not that I talk loud or anything. It's because I always speak at the wrong time, like when somebody's on the phone or trying to listen to something or when I've said something private or inappropriate out loud in public or whatever. Things like that bothers me more so.

Oh my gosh, I absolutely hate it when people tell me to shush! I naturally talk in a very loud voice, so I got told shush countless times when my family and I were forced to move in with my sister and her kids were toddlers. And no matter how many times I got told, it didn't make me any less angry.

People always act like it's my fault that I talk so loudly, but it's not. I think that the volume of my voice sounds normal - I would have never been aware that my "talking voice" sounds like shouting if people didn't point it out to me (same goes for my palilalia).

I hate it. I can't stand that sound.

Out of interest, is it the "shushing" and tapping that many of you seem to dislike (though not all for the same reason), or generally being told to speak more quietly?

Would the question, "please don't speak quite so loudly" be acceptable? My pal speaks very loudly just when we're discussing, or he is holding forth on, some rather personal stuff which not everyone at work perhaps needs to hear. On those occasions I've shushed my pal in the past, mainly to preserve some semblance of privacy.

for me it's the fact that I'm being told that I'm shouting when I don't feel as though I am.
