Is there any specific actions to look for? I ask because I have been diagnosed and one of my friends thinks and acts similar to me. I can't pinpoint from memory what I have noticed so I can't list what I already have here.

Simply if I were to try to unofficialy diagnose somebody what traits would I look for. My friend may have it and I would like to find out.

I could imagine that it would be the same as diagnosing Asperger's with anybody else: look for the diagnostic criteria in the person (Are they socially aloof? Do they avoid eye contact? Are they fixated on a particular interest? Is their pattern of speech unusually pedantic, monotone, or song-like? Are their facial expressions absent or unfitting for their situation?). Perhaps you could mention your suspicions to them and have them take the Aspie Quiz or direct them to do their own research about Autism/Asperger's.
At any rate, best of luck to you and said person!

Oh, let's go down the list...

Obsessive interests, lack of eye contact, fidgeting, difficulty recognizing sarcasm and idioms and subtext, disdain for small talk, sensitive to sound and touch, tendency to ramble, difficulty putting thoughts into words, difficulty reading the emotions of others, repetitive motions, and seven fingers on each hand.

asperger's syndrome manifests in manifold ways, no one person has exactly the same traits as another. this said, i was in a store one time shopping for groceries, when a little kid ran up to me with a blank but determined expression on his face, and asked me, "where is daddy?" [NOT "where is MY daddy?"] he seemed aspie to me, in a way that i've noticed in other lower-functioning aspie kids. if i were to somehow step out of my body and just watch it at a distance as though i was people-watching, i would notice/witness the following addlements in my aspie body-

*odd prosody of speech, alternating between monotonic and sing-song
*odd use of language, either excessively ornate or monosyllabic, with very little in between
*general physical clumsiness, lack of proprioception, accident-prone-ness
*inability to read body language, lack of body language exhibition
*face blindness, inability to remember names of people and things
*a marked tendency to perseverate on things which bore other people to tears
*a one-track mind, inability to fluidly switch mind channels from one subject to another
*a pronounced preference for non-fiction entertainments
*a general tone-deafness concerning social interactions

there are many others but i am old and foggy-minded these days, so i can't remember 'em. you can find the rest by googling.

Thanks for the lists. Looking at what I've read he matches a few. I'll need to look into his speech pattern and eye contact. I have noticed he is figity, has obsessive interests, is accident prone, and has brought forward a dislike for touch. Generally poor socially is another big one I should have mentioned at first. As per 'werewolfpoet's suggestion I may bring it up to him if I notice a few more traits such as the eye contact. Thanks again for the help, it was both bugging me to know since I thought it could be possable and could Benoit him understand the why od things and how to work better in society.

Wow that's me in a nutshell! (But I wouldn't be visiting this site if I didn't already know that I was an Aspie).
