I spoke on the phone with a potential psychologist for about 20 minutes and I'm a bit concerned about it.

She kept asking me why I wanted to be evaluated as if she didn't believe me. I told her to develop proper coping skills to be productive I need a proper diagnosis. She kept emphasizing that if I needed more than just a yes/no answer it would require more work/money. After we got off the phone I replayed the conversation and it seemed as if she was concerned that I wanted to be declared disabled, which is the opposite of what I was telling her.

Also, when I told her I worked part-time and lived with roommates, she seemed to completely dismiss me as not needing either a diagnosis or any mental healthcare because I was obviously "doing ok." How can she know how I am doing based on a single phone call?

She was recommended by a respected autism center, she's not very far from me and I can afford her services, but the more I replay our conversation in my mind the less confident I feel that she will be interested in diagnosing or counseling me.

Also, she wants a lot of information from my mother that seems irrelevant. What does breastfeeding have to do with my neurological makeup? I was breastfed, and I know of no studies that suggest formula affects an infant's development adversely.

I spoke to a guy and he asked lots of irrelevant questions rather than trying to connect with me. I think a lot of psychy people are not naturals for the job. I wondered whether if they followed professional protocol it maybe wouldn't matter, but I didn't bother to find out. Seems an expensive experiment.
