This is the way it went:

Asperger's Syndrome. (started studying it. Learned about 'Spock' from a book that mentioned he had AS traits)

Spock (interested in the character now. My obsession with him died down, but whenever I watch Star Trek, it flares up again)

Star Trek (have started to like the entire show)

This happen to anyone?

AS > Spock > Star Trek

No, not with spock. I wasn't really interested in the show until I saw Data on ST:TNG. Its intresting that they are very similar yet Spock rejects his human side while Data strives, and fails, to be human.

Yeah, that is ironic. Data and Spock are much different, but are common as social awkwards.

I was never a Star Trek fan but I always had a crush on Spock...I use to think it was based on my "Jewish Male" attraction, but now I think it's the AS attraction....maybe both.(though,I dont find Data attractive at all.)I also had a "kung Fu",grasshopper interest when I was young.A combination of the two, would be "Ideal".....Throw in at little Dustin Hoffman in "little,bigMan"....I am in heaven.

I was a big fan of ST in my younger years. I was interested in the technology.

At one point I used the Star Trek reruns to wake me on Sunday mornings, so that I would have a hope of waking up on Monday morning. I got addicted to Star Trek. Bring on the tribbles!

The thing about Spock is that he's likable, somehow. That's something I can't do.

He's likeable because he's portrayed that way. When people make movies, their protagonists are automatically shown positively; movies have to be simple because you just can't go in-depth the way you can with text. So Spock, a character who would be socially ostracised were he to go to a modern city and attempt to interact (which, as you will recall, he has done), is shown positively. It helps a great deal that he is physically strong, very intelligent, and in an environment which caters to his strengths as a scientist. His lack of social understanding never seems to get him into trouble, while his intelligence is always getting him (and others) out of trouble. That sort of environment is an Aspie's dream.

Concretely, beyond all the good press he gets for being a protagonist, Spock has many weaknesses; but he is also, at the core, a very honorable, loyal, and dedicated individual, a great friend. That he manages to combine this with an extremely logical nature is a great part of his charm.

My obsessions, although I usually call them interests because I don't accept labels from NT's saying that the interests of someone with AS are obsessions, whilst theirs are called 'interests' or 'hobbies', (they label to demean IMO) usually start with a very focused period where I learn all I can about something, then I live with it for a while and think a lot about it, then the interest wanes a bit, but it is always there in the background and I often go back to it, but never with the same intensity.
Sorry - not a full stop in sight there!

hell yeah!

i love that double-edged wordsword

it seems that what many NTs find as appropriate behavior for them can always fall under some "safe" tried and true category. (tradition) especially with the "interests/hobbies" vs obsessions. I think that NT's are even more obssessed in some manners then AS.

entertainment being one of them especially celebrities and figurehead political crap.

damn liars.

it seems that if i find the solution, someone will always rebuttle with a problem.

oh yeah, and i think that nts "hobbies or special areas of interest" are really just obsessions that never really go away.

My mother describes Spock as the Star Trek Aspie and says that virtually everything Sci-Fi usually has an 'Aspie' in it. She says Teal'C in Stargate SG-1 is the Aspie, which I can sort of see lol.

OMG yes, I'm so happy to see this as I am currently in the midst of a full-blown ST obsession (hence my name and avatar :D) I totally fell in love with it last year when a friend of mine (not AS but equally obsessive) told me about it. Curious, I watched the first five episodes of TOS (for those of you not fluent in Star Trek that's "The Original Series", i.e Kirk, Spock, Scotty, etc.) and became intrigued. The more I watched the more I liked it until I totally fell in love with Spock (he's still my favourite). Once I'd gone through all of TOS I had to keep going, so I got through The Next Generation and Voyager (Data and Seven of Nine being my favourites from those two respectively, what can I say, if their behaviour were seen in a human, that human would totally have AS). Voyager is currently my favourite, and I love Seven as much as Spock (she's the one in my avatar). I'm about halfway through Enterprise currently, but am a little reluctant to start DS9. My obsessed friend and I watched the first few episodes before starting Voyager and weren't as impressed. Once Enterprise is over though I won't have a choice; have to see everything. I'm going to my first Trek con in Vegas this year and am super excited about it! To all my Trekkie friends out there, Dif Tor Heh Susma (that's Vulcan for "live long and prosper", and no, I haven't yet learned to speak Klingon, but it's totally on the list!)

I watched and loved a lot Star Trek when I was a kid. The character I loved most was Data. He was so much better than many humans in the series and I always felt as if he just wasn't aware that he had some emotions of his own too. I think the future psychologist in me was intrigued by his quest to experience human emotion. It was also the first time in my life that I reflected on the difference between thinking and feeling (I was 6-7 years old at the time). I now understand why I found an Aspie-like character so endearing...

Aspie-quiz results:
Aspie score: 138 of 200 / NT score: 78 of 200 => Very likely an Aspie.

DS9 is wicked awesome!! Dive in you won't be sorry. The series improves dramatically as it goes.
