What I'm actually looking for are the responses from those that have formed a firm opinion one way or the other. Not really looking to debate it.

I'd like a way to say "I support the changes in the DSM-5, but would like to see the results of this poll"

You need an option that says "I talked to a psychiatrist about it and we both agreed it was a good idea."

How could I take the opinion of my psychs seriously when they say ASDs are going to be folded into one umbrella dx and they've diagnosed me according to ICD-10? Unlike DSM, ICD is going to include even more subcategories than ever before. They are only trying to distract me from the distress I feel over getting an unbelievably stupid label, you know, 'PDD-NOS'.

Don't know which option to pick. I'm a scientist, and I think the DSM-V revisions are terrible. And not just for ASDs, either...

I don't know what to think anymore. I hear there really is no change and they are just making it more clear and then I hear since they are making it tighter, it will exclude lot of people on the spectrum. I once got a reply back from them telling me they are trying to make diagnoses more accurate and assured me people will still get help for their problems for a new label they have such as social communication disorder.

isn't the dsm-v just a set of rules for mentals to follow to be diagnosed? there is a reason so many are misdiagnosed.

You received an ICD diagnosis? Or did they use the ICD but gave you a DSM diagnosis? I thought it was a DSM one.

I guess they hardly use the DSM in Europe. I was given 'F84.9 Pervasive developmental disorder, unspecified' according to ICD-10, which is even more like a residual category than PDD-NOS in DSM-IV, since it does not include 'Other pervasive developmental disorders'. (edited)

I got a question. "Do you guys plan these polls out on paper, before filling in the boxes?". It seems this type of not running through the perspectives or testing the system. Is the same problems we have with real world problems, of system designs.

-----

I am also wondering about the "Daft as a brush" "Throwing the baby out with the bathwater" English Idiom. from my "Don't judge a book by it's cover" to a UK person. What if you don't know what it means & you take it literally as the dictionary words.

Thats on my The National Autistic Society awareness card here is the link again:-

http://www.autism.org.uk/~/media/NAS/Do ... glish.ashx

Under "Takes similes & metaphors literally." In communication. Maybe most of these things are to do with social circles. If you read the "Idiom" page on wiki.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idiom

I am starting to wonder if these people need to be tested.

There isn't an option for me.

I support the changes to ASDs in the DSM-V, in theory, and my psychiatrist believes they will be OK.

8O I looked that over sooo carefully too! And it was going to be MY choice too!

Never mind, I'm gonna kill this and try it again.

(Don't worry, I'll save the useful posts, not related to my screw up and weave them into the new one!)

Locking this for now.
