I think I might do this. Basically it seems like anything I touch, I end up having to know everything about how it works and how it compares to other things. Like it seems nothing in my life "just is" I have to know how everything works. So, it's cool, in that I know how lots of things work, and I just know lots of stuff. But, it seems like everything I do must be detailed. Like, even little things, like say, shaving. I wanted to shave more "efficiently" and ended up researching razors, and eventually came across old fashioned DE razors, but in the process I've learned a fair deal about razors. And it's not like, a "main" interest of mine or anything, but to a normal person, they never put much thought into things like razors. They just figure "oh, well, you buy razors at Walmart and use them." And that's the end of the thought process. But yeah, to a normal person, I might seem "obsessed" because I want a particular thing, or wanna do things a particular way, and know so much about a subject, but to me, it's just "normal" thought process.

But yeah, basically, does anyone else just collect vast amounts of knowledge about seemingly random things like this? To the point other people think it's an interest or obsession, but it's really just normal operating procedure?

Yes! I know all the ingredients in my toiletries for example. Before I buy any thing, even if it is shampoo I read the ingredients and google them if I am unfamiliar with them and then I read all the reviews I can find. I'm not talking about expensive purchases here, just cheap stuff from the supermarket or chemist. Last week I went to the doctor because I wanted to change contraceptives. I'd done so much research that in the end I ended up answering all my own questions and some of his as well! Every decision I make or item I buy has to be researched very thoroughly. The upside of this is that I never make impulse purchases but the downside is that I am the least spontaneous person in the whole world, which probably makes me seem boring to other people.

Not to the extent you do...
I do run across things from time to time and all of a sudden I find myself wanting to know everything about it, I only wish that I could make this happen for the subject I am studying at Uni so I am not looking up facts about noodles when I am supposed to be studying corporations law!

You sound like a very interesting person. I wish I could have had you when back when I was on a Trivia team. :)

I'm not as thorough as you, but I love to delve into things and know as much as possible about them. I'm never so happy as I am when I'm learning.

I've heard that we Aspies learn everything about everything so we can put the world in some kind of order, to make it easier to navigate.
