Hi Everyone -

Just a question for all the Apies out there -

Are you a neat freak or a messy person?

Just wondering as my Aspie Husband is the messiest person I have ever met........lol. Me on the other hand am a neat freak. Mess freaks me out and puts me on edge.

I'm a messy aspie too. My neat-freak brother gets so irritated with me because I make messes whenever I eat, even though I don't do it intentionally... And my room always has piles of clean clothes that need to be put away and a bed that needs to be made. And yet, it's the cleanest it's ever been because I force myself not to eat in here like I used to

both... I'm militantly clean when it's not my own belongings. I go on compulsive cleaning spurts when I do clean up. But I am very lax about the timeline and schedule of cleaning, and so my own things end up being very messy most of the time.

Im really messy now that i have a family but oddly when i used to live in my tiny little bedsit on my own i used to scrub the toilet with a toothbrush i was so meticulous... i think that having my routine altered to the extent it was kinda made me give up on trying to have things the way i needed... now i have the bury my head in the sand approach... I will find myself putting order in little things in my life though - such as knowing exactly where everything to do with my special interest is and finding my need for perfection in that.

I naturally swing back and forth between both extremes. These days though when I try to do house work my 4 year old (autistic) relentlessly follows me around and unfolds all the laundry, unmakes the beds, dumps everything back onto the floor that I've picked up so I never get ahead and have little to nothing to show for my effort. He's lucky he's cute. :?

I always keep the living room and kitchen really clean, but my bedroom is usually a bit messy.

It fluctuates though I'm usually more careful with others' things. Collecting clear plastic boxes and adhesive labels is growing into an interest for me

Messy. That and my executive function problems are two of the ways I resemble someone with ADHD-Inattentive. I just cannot decide what to do with things, so they pile up. I never really finish most things - so papers of lots of half-finished, long-forgotten projects litter my desk.

How do you separate AS from ADHD-Inattentive, or can you have both?

This sounds very much like myself. Stuff piles up, I have plans for it, but I can never fully decide, so I find it easier just to leave them there then to waste the effort in organizing them the "wrong" way.

Same for me - if it doesn't belong to me I make sure it is taken well care of.. mine... messy even when I try to not be. I lack the ability to organize it seems...

Same here! Right now, I am trying to get back into the neatness obsession because my house really needs attention. So far, I have done the kitchen, living room, dining room, and my mom (bless her!) did the bathrooms. My bedroom and garage on the other hand are a total disaster.

I have Executive Function Disorder as a co-morbid, so I am very messy and disorganized. I also have IBS and sleep apnea. The IBS keeps me on the toilet a lot of the day, and the sleep apnea leaves me tired all the time, so I don't have enough time or energy to get everything done anyway. My NT sister is Mrs. Clean, though. We can 't live together, as we would drive each other nuts.
