I think most ASpies get 'overloaded', from too much personal interaction, too much light, activity, talking to people, etc.

I need quiet time, no music, no TV, no talking, just time to relax and maybe read, maybe nap. Sonetimes I just curl up and rest, even though I'm not asleep.
Oh yes, and a nip of some alcoholic beverage. A nice glass of Cointreau, straight up.

I try to mountain bike 3x/week and get in some yoga, too. There is a great article in the current issue of Scientific American which includes some of the cause/effect physiology of ASD's. I think I found the source of my flushing, hypertension and occasional rapid heart rate. Excercise seems to help. Releasing endorphines through some exertion is a great "natural high".

Maybe spend some time alone, doing something absorbing but not stressful, like art or crafting or read a book. I like humorous books for de-stressing. Poetry helps too, the rhythm is relaxing. Walking is good too.

Much of stress can be controlled through behavioural and living style modifications. Firstly, make sure you are eating healthily and drinking plenty of water. Secondly, exercise usually helps. Find some sort of exercise that you enjoy and do it a few times a week. Make sure you are consistent in your routine.

The other thing that usually helps me is to have alone time. I can listen to music or zone out or be able to clear my mind of things. There's a technique that I learned in a martial arts class that is similar to meditiation. This works well if you can learn to do some sort of meditation.

Find a hobby

or

Meditate - My stress level here has dropped 10 fold.. If you want, there are meds for it but I always wonder why people here jump to meds before teaching themselves to train their minds and gain a bit of control.. Mind training, in my experience AND belief, will help rid of anxiety, depression, improve focus, and gain a better understanding of just not you but everyone around you 8).. Overall, your head just works better

I have found meditation useful for emotional regulation and relief from depression. Stress has not been the biggest problem for me, but overall I am more stable.

Stress responses and depression are often things that are learned over a lifetime. Someone who's had a lot of bad experiences and has had to cope with a lot of negative feelings may learn unhealthy ways to mentally handle the load. Meditation helps you unlearn these destructive processes and realize that it's literally "all in your head."

Yes, a variety of good suggestions. Meditation. Healthy sleep habits. Good diet. Exercise. Always mark out time each day to relax and recuperate.

All very necessary for the good maintenance of an overexcitable brain. :)

Could you tell us more about yourself please? We don't know if you're a school student, or a parent.

Try doing a lot of push ups next time you're stressed. It helps in several ways
- it's a distraction
- if you can do enough it releases endorphins
- it's something tough that you can channel into all that frustration into

if you're home then try listening to music in a quiet room.
